Zurich is currently looking for a Legacy Services Casualty Underwriter (II) to Senior Legacy Services Casualty Underwriter (III) for our Casualty Legacy Unit in our Schaumburg, IL Office.

This role will be filled at either the Mid-level UW (II) or Senior UW level (III). The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant's experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position

As a member of Zurich's Casualty Legacy Unit, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply your underwriting skills. Specifically, you will analyze and perform all underwriting duties for Commercial Insurance legacy (non-renewed) accounts. This position is under limited direction, utilizing the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on complex assignments ensuring a high level of service to the legacy customer and their brokers.

Senior Level (III) Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or market facing area

OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business

  • Experience working in a team environment

Mid-Level (II) Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market facing area.

OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area

AND

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment

  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines

Preferred Qualifications both levels:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Knowledge of Casualty Underwriting, including Loss Sensitive and large deductible accounts

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Job Summary Responsible for analyzing and monitoring credit worthiness of assigned customers/accounts and recommending and/or approving credit within established guidelines.  Includes analyzing financial statements and completing ratio and trend analysis of statements to determine if a customer is eligible for financing. Responsibilities Major Areas of Accountability * Underwrite high-quality credit narratives in support of new and existing loans. Review and analyze various transactions.  Includes review and analysis of applications, financial statements, balance sheets, D&B reports, etc. * Spreading business financial statements and tax returns using Moody's software to analyze multi-year trends and ratios from financial information. * Understand cash flow from operations, which includes identifying recurring and non-recurring sources of cash flow. * Research industry trends and risks. * Perform collateral analysis including accounts receivable, inventory, real estate, and investments. * Run credit reports and gather/analyze KYC information. * Spread personal financial statements and tax returns for individual guarantors, develop borrower, and guarantor global cash flow analysis. * Work with other areas to monitor delinquency, delinquency trends, and repossession activity. * Conduct annual financial statement follow-up to borrowers and track and monitor the receipt by the Bank of this information. * Prepare written recommendation as to whether the proposed loan should be approved as presented, and provide alternate loan structure recommendations. * Present to loan committee for loan approvals. Communicate decisions. Requirements * Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field with a MBA being preferred * 3-5 years wholesale/commercial credit underwriting experience and prior credit approval authority. * Detail oriented with the ability to analyze cash flow, leverage and gauge customer strength. Experience with deal sizes ranging from 2MM to 10MM being preferred. * Experience in lending to a wide variety of industries, loan types, and sizes of companies being preferred * Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills. * Demonstrated ability to make sound business judgments while protecting the interests of the bank. * Strong technical skills.
