Lecturer/Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Chemistry beginning Fall 2024 (9- month contract):

Limestone University is a small historic co-educational University located in Upstate South Carolina near Charlotte, NC, and Spartanburg/Greenville, SC, originally founded in 1845 with the stated mission to provide opportunities for higher education for those who might otherwise not have access to them. Limestone serves a significant first-generation college and minority student population, a vibrant growing Honors College, and a diverse student body with many international students.

The new College of Health Sciences (beginning July 1) includes Biology, Chemistry, and related science disciplines. It produces students who succeed in medical, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, and other doctoral-level professional programs at a high level. In addition, the College includes Health Care Administration, Health Sciences, Kinesiology/Exercise Science/Strength and Conditioning, PE Education- Certification, Nursing (BSN and MSN), and a rapidly growing Health Sciences major which prepares students for many certificate, master's, and doctoral level allied health professions programs.

The holder of this position will typically teach a total of 12-15 semester hours, including nonmajor, general, and organic chemistry lectures and labs each Fall and Spring semester. There may also be opportunities to teach non-majors electives and Biochemistry if qualified for additional pay. This is a teaching-centric position, but the opportunity to engage in student-centered research with new state-of-the-art GC, HPLC, NMR, DNA sequencing, imaging, and other analytical equipment is available.

They will work with Biology, Health Sciences, Exercise Science, and Nursing program faculty in the College of Health Sciences to support diverse learners, implement and innovate lecture and laboratory curricula, and maintain laboratory space and equipment. The position requires effective communication and the ability to develop and deliver outcome-driven education collaboratively with colleagues, undergraduate teaching assistants, and students.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Doctorate or ABD from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in chemistry with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in the discipline.

  • Experience and success in teaching chemistry in the classroom and laboratory settings to students with various backgrounds and interests.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use technology in creating and delivering course content.

  • An interest in engaging students in the process of science and student-centered research activities.
