Essential Job Duties

The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University invites applicants for a 12-month, professional track faculty position as a Lecturer or Teaching Assistant Professor in REWIND (Renewable Energy Workforce Investments in Natural Resources and Design). This position is 75% teaching and 25% service. Teaching responsibilities include teaching 15 credit hours per year, including a dual-level course for undergraduates and graduate students online or face-to-face. Service responsibilities (25%) include advising several graduate student projects in the online Master of Environmental Assessment (MEA) program each year, advising several undergraduate students each year in Environmental Technology and Management (ETM), coordinating the Minor in Renewable Energy Assessment, and recruiting graduate students to EA programs through marketing and pathways including the REA minor and the ETM/EA Accelerated Bachelors Masters (ABM) program.

Teaching and Mentoring Responsibilities:

The candidate will teach existing online courses in the REA minor that include ET 120 Introduction to Renewable Energy Technologies and Assessment, ET 220 Solar Photovoltaics Assessment, ET 255 Hydro, Wind, and Bioenergy Assessment, ET 262 Renewable Energy Adoption: Barriers and Incentives. The candidate should expect to teach one online course as a dual-level course for undergraduate and graduate (MEA) students. The candidate will also teach a face-to-face course on energy, such as ES 300 Energy and Environment. Mentoring includes advising graduate students in the online MEA program and undergraduate students in the REA minor and ETM/EA ABM program.

Service Responsibilities:

The candidate will coordinate the existing REA Minor, assist with administration of the proposed ETM/EA ABM program, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students interested in energy. The candidate is expected to recruit students to the online MEA program through leading digital marketing efforts, advertising at conferences, participating in on-campus recruiting, and mentoring undergraduates from the REA Minor and ETM/EA ABM programs. The candidate also will serve on committees (at the department, college, and university levels); engage with students through student organizations, undergraduate research, or other extracurricular activities; and participate in professional society activities.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • A proven track record, with at least 1 year of experience, of teaching at the undergraduate level, both online and face to face;

Lecturer rank:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in relevant academic discipline for renewable energy assessment and clean energy

Teaching Assistant Rank:

  • A Ph.D. or relevant doctorate degree

Other Required Qualifications

  • Commitment to impactful pedagogy for student educational experiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Experience with capstone courses, experiential learning, or other innovative pedagogy;
  • Excellent problem-solving and oral and written communication skills;
  • Desire to collaborate in teaching to serve the mission of NC State.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience (since highest degree) in relevant REWIND fields
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level
  • Education or experience in solar photovoltaics and other renewable energy technologies
