Position: The Department of Communication and Theatre Arts at Truman State University seeks applicants for a non-tenure track Instructor of Technical Theatre.

This is a nine-month, part-time (.75 FTE) appointment that will begin in August 2024. This position may be renewable depending upon the needs of the department and the university.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Undergraduate and graduate instruction in lighting design, sound design, and other courses within the candidate's competency area.

  • Design lighting and/or sound for productions within the theatre program. Mentor students in the execution of design projects in the theatre program.

  • Install, setup, and maintain lighting and sound equipment for theatre productions.

  • Participate in recruiting students for the theatre program.

  • Additional duties as assigned, according to the candidate's area of specialization and needs of the theatre program.

The Department of Communication and Theatre Arts: The Communication and Theatre Arts offers the degree Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, and Masters of Arts in Education:

Speech and Theatre in cooperation with the Education Department. With four full-time instructors, the department currently enrolls approximately 40 majors. As part of the School of Arts and Letters, along with visual arts and music, the department provides liberal arts experiences for non-theatre majors as well.

The Community: Located in northeast Missouri, Kirksville is a cultural and economic hub in the region.

The charming downtown area features an arts center, as well as several local shops and restaurants.

  • MFA in Theatre or closely related degree with documented experience in Technical Theatre

  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to the liberal arts and collegiality within the learning community.

  • MFA in Theatre with specialization(s) in Technical Theatre.

  • Documented university and/or professional experience in all aspects of described responsibilities.
