The Department of Languages at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a full-time instructor position. The ideal candidate will have earned a master's degree (M.A.) or doctorate (Ph.D.) in Spanish.

The applicant should have experience teaching at the undergraduate level and a commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds. Employment would begin in August 2024 at the rank of instructor.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have either a M.A. or a Ph. D. in Spanish, experience teaching at the undergraduate level, and experience mentoring students in Spanish.

Strong commitment to teaching a full load of 24 credit hours per academic year;

Write and Speak English proficiently;

Demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students; Commitment to academic advising and mentoring of HBCU students leading to readiness for graduate school and the workforce; and

Demonstrate ability and willingness to work collegially

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Description

1.Teaching responsibilities will focus on four different courses in intermediate and advanced grammar & composition in Spanish as well as medical Spanish;

2.Teach 12 credit hours per semester;

3.Advise Spanish major, minor, concentration, and Spanish for Health Professionals certificate students; and

4.Participate in service activities for the Department, University, their discipline, and the community.
