Job Description:

The School of Engineering at Maritime College, State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. This is a tenure/tenure-track, 10-month academic year appointment. The Maritime College naval architecture and marine engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET and are focused on ship design, marine power, small boat design, shipboard engineering systems, and marine propulsion. We welcome applications from candidates with any background in naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in naval architecture, ocean engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • Highly qualified individuals with a master's degree, licensure as a professional engineer, licensure as a USCG Engineering Officer, or significant industrial experience may be considered for a non-tenure track position as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer
  • A reasonable expectation of timely completion of a Ph.D. is required for appointment as an Assistant Professor
  • A Ph.D. and previous academic or industrial experience is required for appointment as an Associate Professor
  • A Ph.D. and significant previous academic experience at the Associate or Full Professor is required for appointment as a Professor

The successful candidate will also have most, if not all the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability or potential to teach and develop courses in naval architecture or ocean engineering,
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to advise and mentor undergraduate student,
  • A commitment to engage in departmental, school, and college service activities, such as committee work, student recruitment, and outreach events,
  • A commitment to provide professional service to the facilities engineering community, such as serving on technical committees, reviewing manuscripts, and participating in professional organizations,
  • A commitment to fostering a just, inclusive environment and enabling students across racial, ethnic, identity, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential

Further, exceptional candidates, may have some of the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability or commitment to conduct research with a focus on advancing knowledge and solving practical problems in the field

  • Demonstrated ability or commitment to mentor graduate students

  • Demonstrated ability or commitment to conduct research with a focus on advancing knowledge and solving practical problems in the field

  • Demonstrated experience or commitment to seeking and securing external funding for through grant proposals,

  • A record, appropriate to rank, of publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting their work at conferences

  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer or USCG Engineering Officer

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Lecturer, Assistant, Associate or Professor position will be an academic year 10 month appointment. The Lecturer 10 Month position will be a non-tenure track, while appointments at Assistant, Associate, or Professor positions are tenure-track appointments." Initial appointment without tenure (continuing appointment) will be for a fixed term of two or three years with extensions possible by mutual consent. Tenure (continuing appointment) on hire will be considered for those already tenured or with significant previous academic experience and a demonstrated track record of success. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation includes a full benefits package in accordance with the contract between the State University of New York and United University Professionals. Special Notes: This is a full-time academic year appointment UUP position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Review of application to commence immediately.
