The State University of New York at Fredonia seeks qualified applicants for a Lecturer of Music (Applied Trombone), a full-time position beginning in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for mentoring and teaching undergraduate and graduate trombone students in a wide variety of music degree programs, as well as actively recruiting and retaining students for Fredonia's School of Music. This faculty member will be expected to be an active participant in School of Music and University committees and events. They may also be expected to teach other courses as required by the School of Music, and may be asked to participate in faculty chamber ensembles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Advise, instruct and support undergraduate and graduate students through a variety of curricula (Music Performance, Music Education, Composition, Music Therapy, Sound Recording Technology and Bachelor of Arts degree programs);
Develop syllabi appropriate to each level of degree instruction and assign grades accordingly;
Teach and mentor students in weekly on-campus lessons of 25 or 50 minutes for each student;
Create an appropriate and progressive course of study for each student;
Prepare students for juries, performances, recitals;
Evaluate brass students at semester jury examinations;
Recruit and retain trombone students;
Work alongside School of Music faculty to create and maintain a constructive learning environment;
Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in music;
A record of successful teaching and performing;
Demonstrated experience as a successful recruiter and retainer of students;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate in music or commensurate professional experience;
Three or more years of collegiate teaching experience;
Evidence of performance expertise/abilities in a range of musical styles;
An attitude that creates opportunities, creatively solves problems, and builds healthy relationships.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, term appointed, non-tenure track position beginning Fall 2024 at a salary of $48,397 - $50,000.
