Description

Midway University invites applicants for the position of Learning Support Specialist. As part of the Office of Student Success, the Learning Support Specialist will help implement and facilitate programs that increase student success and persistence. The Learning Support Specialist fosters the development of students' skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to success in college and beyond and helps students identify and overcome obstacles that impede academic success.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Create and execute targeted outreach efforts that promote student success for first year, international, evening and online (EON), and veteran students;

• Create and maintain a high-touch strategy to provide regular interaction and resources for at risk students including those students on Academic Probation and conditionally admitted;

• Assist in implementation of best practices that promote student success and persistence;

• Assist with managing program logistics (attendance tracking, scheduling, email correspondence);

• Support approved testing accommodations.

• Provide academic coaching services and learning strategy instruction.

• Develop and deliver workshops on topics including academic skills, time management, goal setting and growth mindset.

• Assist in the management of the University's Peer Tutoring program.

• Support training and development of peer tutors and peer coaches.

• Provide programmatic support for all Student Success programs.

• Foster campus partnerships and collaborations.

• Assist in promoting the Office of Student Success to students, faculty, and staff.

• Assist in data-informed decision making about programming such as Peer Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, and Academic Coaching

• Keep abreast of trends and best practices to support implementation of initiatives as it relates to academic coaching, tutoring, and student success.

• Assists students to develop self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; motivates students to practice self-regulation and to take ownership of their academic success.

• Helps students to identify, develop, and implement learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials.

• Monitors the progress of caseload students via check-ins, scheduled meetings, proactive outreach, and regular communication.

• Participates in orientations and university activities.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; master's preferred.

• Positive attitude and disposition, strong verbal and written communication, and evidence of working well with a team to accomplish shared goals, collaborate, build relationships, and work with diverse groups.

• Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and set priorities accordingly.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, fostering effective collaboration with university stakeholders.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

• Previous and related experience working in a support role with adult learners and college-age students including academic success, academic support services, and technology support is highly desirable.
