Position Summary

The University at Buffalo Office of Curriculum, Assessment & Teaching Transformation (CATT) seeks to hire a Learning Designer for Accessible and Inclusive Pedagogy (Learning Designer) to serve as a UDL and inclusive course design expert. The Learning Designer will support instructors directly through the creation of content and programming and individual consultations. The incumbent will serve as a liaison with the offices of Accessibility Resources and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Essential to this role is advocacy and outreach to the campus instructional community promoting UDL and inclusive pedagogy.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Serve as a UDL and Inclusive Course Design Expert in UBs LMS.

  • Develop training and advocate for accessible pedagogy.

  • Collaborate with campus partners in advocating for increased adoption of UDL guidelines.

  • Serve on the classroom design and rehabilitation committee to advise on classroom accessibility features.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least two (2) years of experience in instructional design or direct support for a learning management system.

  • Additional required experience includes:

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Experience working in a college or university setting with significant experience related to instructional design, course building, or support of a learning management system.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), planning, organizational and analytical skills. Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse populations.

  • Strong computer skills essential. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook and Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Drive. Familiarity with common learning management systems, such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, or D2L.

  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.

  • A positive and professional demeanor.

  • Evidence of exceptional writing skills for a wide-range of applications including web, print, and video.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to work independently at times and collaborate with others on a creative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree with three (3) years of experience in higher education in the areas of instruction design, direct instructional support, or user support for a learning management system. Demonstrated expertise with course building in one of the common learning management systems, such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, or D2L, is highly desirable.

  • Media production and communications experience in higher education, including:

  • Creative video capture using professional audio, video and lighting equipment.

  • Creative video editing skills using desktop-based programs such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.

  • Creative event and commercial photography skills.

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager for website creation and management or other content management system, and a working knowledge of Javascript.

  • Ability to maintain mobile and studio production equipment, troubleshoot technical failures and make repair or replacement recommendations.

  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products including InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro.
