The Human Resources (HR) and Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance teams at the University of New England provide a variety of support systems and development opportunities helping to retain a talented workforce working to foster a productive environment.

Under the supervision of the Employee Relations & Talent Development Manager, the Learning and Development Specialist will work in partnership to support the growth and development of our employees. This role will manage the training curriculum for professional staff and faculty by designing and implementing learning strategies for the UNE community.

After successfully completing the initial probationary period the Learning and Development Specialist will be offered hybrid flexible work options (must be able to attend meetings and regularly scheduled days on the Biddeford/Portland campus).

Responsibilities

  • Designs and executes comprehensive training programs for professional and leadership development for UNE employees.

  • Develops training materials including presentations, videos, as well as written materials utilizing technology to develop and implement e-learning initiatives.

  • Facilitates engaging and interactive training sessions using a variety of instructional techniques.

  • Develops and manages initiatives such as Manager Monthly Newsletters, Manager Round Table Discussions, and additional projects aimed at fostering communication and leadership development across the university.

  • Collaborates with department heads, managers, and employees conducting thorough needs assessment to identify skill gaps and evolving training needs.

  • Assesses the effectiveness of training programs through participant feedback, performance metrics, and other evaluation methods.

  • Stays informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, HR Management, Communication, or a related field is required. This position requires 2-4 years of experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

  • Proven experience in designing and delivering training programs.

  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to analyze training needs and tailor programs accordingly.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Continuous learning mindset and adaptability to change.

  • Prior experience in higher education preferred
