What You Will Do

As an Associate with Columbia St. Mary's-WI, you will have the opportunity to

Organizes and leads activities and workflow for Point of Care function.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops new Point of Care test setups which may include project management, vendor and Laboratory Information Services representation, and validation of new tests.

  • Provides administrative, technical and educational guidance for all testing performed. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and accreditation standards with regards to safety and Point of Care testing for all system laboratory sites.

  • Reviews, analyzes and reports on Point of Care testing quality control and compliance data. Compiles monthly and/or annual compliance and incidence report summaries.

  • Acts a resource for the evaluation, implementation and monitoring of all new Point of Care testing.

What You Will Need

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Preferred Credential(s):

  • Medical Technologist (ASCP) credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).

  • Medical Lab Scientist (ASCP) credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).

  • Medical Tech credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Education:

  • Diploma

  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required

Work Experience:

  • 1 year of experience required.

Hours: 7AM-7PM; 3 12 hours shifts. Every other weekend. 1/2 of holidays The 5th Floor is a 36 bed Intermediate Care unit. The staff provides excellent care and service that includes comprehensive assessments, pain management/symptom control, medication administration, discharge planning, patient and family education, psychosocial/spiritual support. Intermediate Care includes the care of these types of patients: * Cardiothoracic Care includes: * Post Cardiac Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Catherization and Electrophysiology Lab procedures * IV Drugs may include: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerine, Dobutamine, Ativan (Hospice Patients), Fentanyl (for Pain control), AngioMax, Insulin, Lasix, Heparin, Integrillin, Reopro drips. * Arterial and Venous Pacing * LifeVest patients awaiting Pacer/Defibrillators * Cancer Care includes: Chemotherapy, Cryotherapy, Microwave Embolization * Stroke and TIA patients: We are Joint Commission Primary Stroke site * Elder Care: With a NICHE focus * Palliative Care & Hospice What you will do: * Assists with patient care activity. * Assists with procedures ordered by physician and supervised by a Registered Nurse (RN). * Assists patients with tending to personal care, activities of daily living and transfers/transport. * Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. * Assists with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly. * Ensures accurate and complete documentation. The staff starts each shift with a change of Shift Huddle, then Bedside Report followed by Hourly Rounds. These best practices help to ensure high quality and patient satisfaction. The Nursing staff work with multidisciplinary team which includes: Hospitalists, Case Managers, Social Workers, Pharmacists, Cardiac Rehab Nurses, OT, PT, Speech Therapy, Chaplains and the Palliative Care team.
