The Leadership Giving Officer collaborates in the creation of strategic, year-round fundraising with the goal of growing annual contributions to the University. This position identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards constituents of the University. This position is responsible for building and maintaining a portfolio of prospects and donors. They are responsible for developing long-term philanthropic relations with an assigned group of alumni, parents, and friends of the University. The position reports to the Associate Vice President of Constituent Engagement.

Core Duties

  • Partner with the Constituent Engagement Team, Advancement Team and other University Relations staff to conceptualize, develop, and implement a comprehensive, integrated annual giving strategy.

  • Manage a portfolio and fundraising plan, primarily regionally, with an emphasis on securing new gifts and gift upgrades through a strategic approach to personal cultivation and solicitation with a focus on annual gifs of $1,000 to $24,999.

  • Manage a portfolio of viable prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support, with an emphasis on 25 to 35 active relationships per quarter.

  • Steward and manage established relationships to maximize engagement, renew annual giving, and present new opportunities; cultivate and solicit existing and new gifts to the University.

  • Develop strategies to involve targeted populations in fundraising and volunteer activities.

Monitor, analyze, and report on overall results to internal and external constituencies.

  • Work closely with all relevant departments and positions on campus to support effectiveness and success of assigned fundraising programs, including but not limited to University Relations, Admissions, Career Center, Athletics, Marketing & Communications, Academic Deans, and Faculty.

  • Execute a "moves management" system for a dedicated group of constituents, including donors, alumni, parents, and friends. Plan and execute appropriate follow‐up actions and stewardship post meetings, phone calls, events, and gifts. Prepare and enter contact reports from prospect interactions on a timely basis.

  • Utilize donor/prospect the current data management system. Identify and prioritize prospects, prepare background information, make contacts or assignments as appropriate, and follow up to ensure completion of assigned solicitations.

  • Create targeted donor proposals in coordination with other members of University Relations and other campus departments.

  • Facilitate donor relationships including trip management, staffing donor meetings, consistent outreach to current and lapsed donors, and the facilitation of donor requests and information.

  • Participate in scheduled check-ins and regular strategy meetings.

  • Commit to travel and off-site meetings on a weekly basis.

  • Assist with substantive programming and event support during Orientation, Family Weekend, and Graduation. Be available to work evenings and weekends, as needed, to assist with events and other University activities.

Education & Experience

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree

  • Required: One to two years of experience in Fundraising, Marketing, Sales, or related field.

  • Preferred: Experience with constituent relations software (e.g. Raiser's Edge) or similar CRM

  • Preferred: Knowledge of higher education development.

  • Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Preferred: Valid Driver's License

  • All University of Portland positions require the ability to quickly learn and use new technologies, software, and applications in depth and at level of proficiency required for duties of the position. In most situations, the necessity of learning, using, and supporting new technologies, software, and/or applications does not change a job description nor make the position one that involves higher level duties.
