The A. Duie Pyle Leadership Development Program is a rotational program designed to prepare recent college graduates for a leadership career in Transportation Operations. This is a six month program where you will learn the industry and our operation from the ground up and gain hands-on experience through assignments in various departments and multiple locations.

Your career with A. Duie Pyle will begin on the dock where you will learn about dock operations and freight handling.

You will also learn about our P&D operation (Pick-Up & Delivery) through time spent on the road with our drivers and some time in Dispatch. In addition, you will spend time in the corporate office working in Customer Service, learning about other departments and getting exposure to our senior leadership team. Along the way you will receive coaching and guidance from experienced leaders and participate in leadership training events.

The next class of our Leadership Development Program will begin in June, 2019.


We are looking for motivated individuals with a strong desire to excel and the ability to work in a very fast-paced environment. Qualified candidates must be completing, or have completed, a degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or a related field.

Other degrees will be considered. Candidates must be willing to work varying hours on different shifts and travel to the West Chester, PA corporate office during the program. Upon completion of the program, candidates must be willing to relocate within the A. Duie Pyle system.

General Statement of Duties: Under the leadership of the Urban Education Program Director, foster student success by providing academic support to first-generation college students and assisting with the overall administration of the program including, but not limited to, student recruitment and selection, leadership development and administration of the Summer Bridge Program. The Urban Education Program Academic Advisor is expected to assist in developing program systems and protocols designed to increase student retention and graduation rates. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but not limited to: Essential: * Guide first-generation college students in their transition from high school to college. * Assist students with establishing realistic and attainable goals that are in accordance with the Westfield State Experience. * Advise a student caseload, providing academic and career advising, academic planning and personal development. * Manage the course registration process, including adding and dropping courses. * Closely monitor student academic progress towards degree completion and initiate appropriate intervention strategies by referring students to campus resources. * Instill strategies to foster student success to all program students, including students on academic probation, such as academic strategies, time management, organization and effective studying in all disciplines. * Maintain daily advising reports documenting services rendered for each session. * Provide information about program services and requirements to prospective students, university administration, faculty and staff, parents, and high school teachers and guidance counselors. * Participate in the planning and implementation of the Summer Bridge Program. * Participate in University and Program recruitment and admissions processes, including reviewing admission files to determine eligibility of students for the Summer Bridge Program. * Attend and present at open houses and recruitment events for prospective first-year students sponsored by the Office of Admission, and New Student Orientation. * Assist in the training and supervision of peer counselors and residential staff during the Summer Bridge Program. * Assist in the development, implementation and facilitation of the First-Year Experience workshop for the Summer Bridge Program. * Establish and maintain liaisons with important campus constituents, including faculty. * Coordinate and evaluate student leadership initiatives and serve as an advisor. * Participate in university-wide initiatives such as representing the department at campus meetings and committees. * Assist with public relations initiatives for the program, and foster an institutional climate to support program goals. * Attend and/or present at relevant national, regional and local professional development conferences, workshops and seminars. * Perform other duties as assigned. Preferred: * Bilingual in English/Spanish * Knowledge of campus technology platforms such as Banner, DegreeWorks, and Starfish. * Previous supervisory experience Requirements: * A Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work or closely related field. * A minimum of three years' experience in academic advising, counseling, admissions, career services or student affairs. * Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. * Knowledge of college or university academic and financial assistance procedures; ability to work with sensitive and confidential student information. * Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and demands. * Have an understanding of, and sensitivity to, individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability of first-generation college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles. * Experience with facilitation and design of presentations, workshops and seminars. * Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a productive working relationship with multiple constituencies. * Well-developed interpersonal, written, oral, presentation and computer skills. * Working knowledge of management database systems. Ability to design and maintain data management systems and produce reports on outcomes and retention. * Able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
