Leadership Development Consultant, Continuous Pursuit of Excellence

Rush University Medical Center presents an exciting opportunity for a Leadership Development Consultant focused on the Continuous Pursuit of Excellence. This role will design, implement, facilitate, and evolve programs necessary to ensure a pipeline of leadership talent across Rush University Medical Center versed in Rush's lean principle called CPE (continuous pursuit of excellence). This role will focus on the sustained culture change and CPE leadership development strategy and Rush, and will ensure we are developing the CPE skills and capabilities of our leaders at all levels to support the evolutionary growth and transformation of our academic health system. This is a highly visible position with significant exposure to senior level executives and the opportunity to be autonomous and creative, and to lead innovative best practice projects within a receptive and well-resourced environment. Position Responsibilities:

  • Determines strategies to meet educational needs for leaders regarding lean management (CPE) methods throughout the organization.

  • Provides leadership and coaching training and education to all leaders of the medical center on RUMC's lean management/CPE methodology.

  • Coaches and consults with leaders to assess, build, and implement a performance improvement infrastructure and culture which supports quality outcomes.

  • Administers and shares results of EQI assessment with leaders as part of the leadership coaching, training, and education.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends with the lean management and academic healthcare community by participating in local, regional, and national training conference, web conferences ,and other available models.

  • Collaborates with leaders on how to achieve the desired results efficiently and effectively, addressing the root cause(s) of performance gaps.

  • Continually evaluates solutions for quality, business impact, scalability, and sustainability.

  • Conducts needs assessments and post-learning evaluation to understand successes and improvement opportunities for the designed solution while establishing methods for ensuring both consistency and quality.

  • Identifies gaps in specific lean management leadership and coaching competencies for specific leadership roles, levels, and focuses.

  • Brings innovative and creative leadership development solutions to bear on complex organizational development needs by leveraging proven best practices, progressive thinking, technology, and out-of-the-box problem solving.

  • Develops measures, benchmarks, and/or scorecards to monitor the effectiveness of CPE leadership development efforts; applies these measures to drive progress in talent management and retention.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • Master's degree or equivalent work experience required.

  • At least seven years of lean management experience related to guiding organizations in removing barriers to optimal performance.

  • Formal training in Six Sigma, lean, and/or other formal lean management methodologies.

  • Experience in leadership roles required.

  • Experience in healthcare and academic settings preferred.

  • Experience coaching leaders and using confidential assessments. Applied knowledge of measurement and program evaluation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work with a senior client audience.

  • Excellent skills in writing, editing, and proofreading.

  • Experience using consulting, conflict resolution, negotiation, and influencing skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong program management with the ability to develop, support, and mentor others in these domains.

  • Ability to work under conditions of ambiguity.
