WHAT YOU GET TO DO

A Commercial Construction Risk Subject Matter Expert (SME) typically has a deep understanding of the risks associated with commercial construction projects. Their job description may include:

  • Risk Assessment: Conducting comprehensive assessments of risks associated with commercial construction projects, including identifying potential hazards, financial risks, legal liabilities, and other relevant factors.

  • Risk Mitigation Strategies: Developing and implementing strategies to mitigate identified risks, such as insurance coverage, contract provisions, safety protocols, and project management techniques.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Staying up to date with relevant regulations and codes governing commercial construction projects to ensure compliance and minimize regulatory risks.

  • Contract Review and Negotiation: Reviewing construction contracts, subcontractor agreements, and other legal documents to identify and address potential risk exposures. They may also participate in contract negotiations to ensure that risk allocation is fair and reasonable.

  • Claims Management: Assisting in the management of insurance claims and other disputes that may arise during the course of construction projects, including investigating claims, evaluating liability, and negotiating settlements.

  • Quality Assurance: Overseeing quality assurance processes to minimize the risk of defects, delays, and cost overruns in construction projects.

  • Training and Education: Providing training and educational resources to project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to increase awareness of construction risks and promote best practices for risk management.

  • Collaboration: Collaborating with project managers, engineers, architects, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to proactively identify and address construction risks throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously monitoring and evaluating risk management processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement and enhance overall project outcomes.

  • Industry Knowledge: Maintaining a strong understanding of industry trends, best practices, emerging technologies, and other factors that may impact construction risk management.
