Hiring one person to join our team as a full time, non exempt Lead Water Meter Reader! The majority of time spent for this position is in the office and the schedule is Monday
Hiring Salary: $19.65/hr - $23.50/hr
Salary Range: $19.65/hr - $27.35/hr
The incumbent performs staff level professional and administrative work supervising the operations of lead work in the reading of water meters and recording customer usage in the City's utility system. Performs professional and supervisory duties relating to the planning, directing, organizing, implementing, and coordinating all programs and activities associated with Utilities operations. The incumbent exemplifies the characteristics of a collaborative, innovative and resilient work culture and along with the leadership team, models the appropriate behavior to create and maintain a resilient work culture within the department.
The incumbent works in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, agencies and the public in delivering effective and innovative services. Provide holistic services to the public by seeking ways to integrate programs or services provided by other departments, divisions and agencies.
Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties:

Maintains confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state and county rules and regulations.
Assigns routes, spot checks results, reviews reports of meter reader/workers; field trains new meter reader/workers; assists in the review of work of meter reader/workers. Reads water meters at residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
Records the meter read by using an Itron handheld meter reading unit. Prepares written notices to inform residents of the possibility of water leaks. Contacts residents when excessive water consumption is noted.
Downloads meter routes to handheld reading units. Uploads completed meter routes from handheld reading units. Processes necessary upload reports.
Performs file backup. Uploads completed file to mainframe computer for further processing by utility billing staff. Assists in outdoor and indoor meter and pit maintenance and repair.
Assists in conducting tests on various components and replaces parts as needed. Keeps handheld meter reading equipment up-to-date. Trims grass along meters as required.
Reports damaged or malfunctioning meter equipment requiring more technical expertise to Meter Specialist. Performs rereads as necessary. Follows up on inconsistent readings as reported by meter reader/workers or other utility billing staff.
Schedules temporary meter reader/workers during absence of meter reader/workers. Responds to consumer complaints or inquiries such as low water pressure, no water, or broken pipes or meters.
Traverse assigned routes and take readings of meter dials; record reading by inputting data into hand-held ITRON device to provide needed information for utility billing and other related action; note any unusual changes in consumption, location or malfunctions such as leaks or damaged meters.
Duties require a full range of physical motion and activities including manual digging, pushing, pulling, lifting twisting and turning the upper body, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing in and out of meter pits, balancing, crawling, reaching for objects, walking and standing.
Recheck readings as needed to determine abnormal consumption patterns and analyze possible causes for fluctuation or consumption. Calculate consumption as needed.
Assist in maintenance and repair of meters; replace defective meters; test meters for accuracy. Maintain assigned tools and equipment. Operate a personal computer and applicable software.
Operate a motor vehicle. Identify and recommend improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective. Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
Use all required safety equipment. Perform related duties as required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age and must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: meter pit test, oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry check, driving check through DMV, physical examination, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.

Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday. Attendance at City Council meetings is required as well as attendance at all other hearings/meetings that may be requested by the City and County Manager. Work involves working outdoors in all weather conditions. The worker may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. Worker will be involved in climbing in and out of meter pits and operating hand tools and Itron meter reading device, all of which present certain safety hazards.
Travel by motor vehicle is required to reach work sites. The noise level in the environment is moderate.
