What you'll do:

  • Manage the playback engineering team's day-to-day operations

  • Work closely with video product and video platform leadership to define, execute and deploy playback features and improvements

  • Implement and improve creator tooling and playback features making the Vimeo player "smarter" and improving the user experience

  • Refactor the UI rendering and data layer with the latest available technologies to improve cross-platform support

  • Continue to improve playback quality in all types of playback circumstances across the globe

  • Improve the performance, usability and overall experience of Vimeo's video player by writing clean and reusable code using the latest HTML5 video streaming technologies

Skills & knowledge you should possess:

  • 3+ years leading engineering teams at scale

  • +4 years in a professional dynamic web environment working with JavaScript (framework agnostic), HTML5, CSS and SASS mastery

  • Development experience within a dynamic web environment (Python, PHP, Node.JS, etc.)

  • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) experience

  • Ability to keep up with the evolution of JavaScript (Media Source Extensions, Media Capabilities, WebVR/XR, WebGL)

  • Knowledge or experience working with DASH or HLS video delivery and playback

  • Strong portfolio or public code (Github, Bitbucket, etc.)

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a related field

The Video Processing team is a team working within the central Video Technology Group that oversees video processing and publishing workflows. Role Details: We are looking for a Video Software Engineer who is passionate about large scale video ecosystems and cares about code quality, uptime, performance, continuous deployment, design principles, and test-driven development. You'll be an integral part of the Video Processing team, working with engineers to build and release products for various platforms like Desktop, OTT, Mobile. You will be contributing to the design and implementation of components that will guarantee video processing quality at rapid speeds as we cover the CBSi Business Units requirements for on-demand and live streaming workflows.
