Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
$5,000 SIGN ON BONUS - EXTERNAL ONLY
To be the area expert in performing routine and specialized examinations in Ultrasound; adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic and/or therapeutic results; prepare patients for examinations. This requires independent judgment to adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a radiologist, cardiologist, or board certified vascular specialist. This position is also the preceptor and resource technologist in the area for training of employees/students and daily functions. Additionally, all other duties are required or assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Associate's Degree OR Certificate in the field of Ultrasound
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) - Must have proof of an ARDMS registry upon hire
BLS within 30 days of hire
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1-3 years of experience in/with problem-solving skills, the ability to set priorities, organize work and have excellent interpersonal skills, Flexibility and the ability to work well with others are required. AndStand-by call is also required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
Performs high quality vascular and ultrasound procedures in a manner that ensures an accurate and complete examination within the guidelines, policies, procedures and standards of Medical Imaging to assigned patients of all ages and is expected to be the expert.
Exhibits competency in performing ultrasound procedures
Images required views demonstrating appropriate anatomy and pathology
Knowledgeable of catheters, biopsy instruments and sterile trays and prepares these items as necessary
Obtains accurate histories and explains rationale for procedure to patients/families
Evaluates the finished images to ensure diagnostic exams are being submitted to the radiologists
Maintains quality care throughout the procedure
Maintains expert working knowledge of all medical Imaging department Ultrasound equipment (including hardware and software)* Expert and resource person for trouble-shooting equipment
Develops and records protocols under the direction of the Medical Directors
Maintains accurate performance records of all equipment
Assures accrediting protocols are followed
Facilitates growth of the combined areas of general and vascular
Departmental Support
Assures competent personnel and continued skill development
Continuously evaluates staff performance by providing positive reinforcement and constructive criticism in a professional manner
Manages personnel conflicts and seeks direction from Radiology Manager
Facilitates staff development on a formal and informal basis as well as new employee orientation through a structured system
Communicates information and direction to staff through effective mechanisms including at least bimonthly staff meeting for which minutes are maintained
Monitors and maintains skill level of staff in all areas of ultrasound
Coordinates a training program for students and technologists to ensure high quality exams
Displays leadership skills in their daily process
Develops and implements a staffing plan by adjusting staffing levels up/down based on daily workload
Provides input on the evaluation of staff
Participate in the Quality Improvement process
Leads in development of teamwork of staff to ensure efficient and appropriate patient care
Networks with other professionals regionally
Demonstrates ability to multitask to assist with workflow
Develops new processes utilizing creative ideas for a dynamic environment
Assists in achieving competencies
Maintains a current knowledge by keeping abreast of trends in new processes and procedures
Follow up on concerns/problems as needed
Display a professional attitude in order to foster mutual respect and creating a productive learning environment
Quality Improvement
Maintains the quality assurance/quality control programs for the area, providing written documentation. Works daily to maintain ultrasound department productivity and patient satisfaction
Responsible for ACR/ICSAL accreditation, which involves collecting all images and reviewing images with the Medical Directors and assembling/typing all material and images for review
Works with the QA Ultrasound technologist to assure continued accreditation is achieved in both ACR & ICAL* Maintains equipment by reporting malfunctioning of the equipment to the appropriate clinical engineering department* QA for specific exams under Radiologist guidance
