JOB SUMMARY

Oversees administrative work and construction, reconstruction and maintenance of electrical equipment, traffic signals, street lights and school flashers throughout Salt Lake County on a daily basis. Assists in providing functional and technical direction to assigned personnel. Assists in County-wide emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Seven (7) years of experience in a field closely related to these duties; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Current Commercial Driver License class B

Completion of level I, II IMSA certification within 12 months of hire

Completion of level I, II IMSA street light certification within 12 months of hire

Completion of all equipment certifications within 6 months of hire

Class A CDL within 6 months of hire

700 hours of Signal Construction (verified)

500 hours of Street light repair (verified)

500 hours of Signal Maintenance (verified)

Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position.

Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.

May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in leading and training assigned personnel.

  • Develops scheduling, determines coverage, and approves time off for assigned team. Participates in performance evaluation recommendations.

  • Recommends, develops, and enforces standard operating procedures, safety, and training needs.

  • Leads in the construction and installation of traffic signal controllers, cabinets, pole bases and foundations, vehicle detection loops, underground/overhead wiring and conduit, traffic signal poles, mast arms. Constructs and installs street lights, school flashers, and radar signs in accordance with MUTCD, state and national electrical codes and specifications.

  • Prepares and submits required detailed daily reports. Coordinates with Blues Stakes and Traffic Engineering for possible utility conflicts with projects.

  • Maintains traffic signals, street lights, school flashers, and radar signs in accordance with established standards. Monitors traffic coordination systems and ATMS systems.

  • Coordinates with contractors and power company representatives, to determine electrical problems or power failures. Facilitates resolution for repairs.

  • Promotes proper and safe operation of specialized equipment to include boom trucks, line trucks, trenchers, and concrete saws. Works with low and high voltage, electrical meters and test equipment.

  • Assists County divisions with electrical equipment, electric motors, as requested

  • Investigates citizen concerns and resolves issues in a professional, courteous manner, while maintaining a safe environment and providing excellent customer service.

  • Follows applicable safety practices, requirements and policies to prevent accidents and/or injuries.

  • Responds to emergency situations during non-regular work hours.
