Position Information

Are you looking for a rewarding career where you will have a direct impact on the maintenance of a variety of vehicles and construction equipment for the City and County of Honolulu? Come and work for Department of Facility Maintenance, Automotive Equipment Services Division. You will be an active participant in supervising and participating in work that involves the repair, servicing and replacement of tires and tubes for the City's fleet.

There is one vacancy located in Honolulu/Aiea. Under the general supervision of the Automotive Vehicle Services Supervisor, the duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Plans, reviews, prioritizes, assigns, and inspects tire repair work as performed by subordinates and contractors.

  • Receives call for assistance relating to construction, industrial, heavy truck and light vehicle tire failures in the field.

  • Estimates time, parts, material and personnel needed to complete jobs.

  • Schedules work for shop personnel.

  • Reviews subordinates' findings and approves requisitions for material and supplies within authorized limits.

  • Maintains and monitors inventory of tires, tubes and supplies.

  • Drives a light truck and makes tire repair trips to the field.

Special Working Conditions: Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in changing and repairing automotive and construction, industrial, heavy truck and light vehicle tires.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the most common practices, tools, materials and equipment used in changing and repairing tires of various types and sizes; and the ability to supervise the work of others; readily recognize and repair tire damage; remove and mount tires of all sizes; and operate tire changing and dismantling equipment.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:

Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
