Our R&D team of engineers,designers and technical experts are in the forefront of technology in themedical device industry. You will be making a vital contribution to the NewProduct Development pipeline and transforming patient care through innovation.Our Design Engineer executes specific & general assignments/projects thatprovide innovative, functional, cost effective & validated product designsin a team based environment. This is an opportunity for a key role in bringingexciting new products to market to support the J&J / Google roboticsventure. Ground-floor position to help grow and build a new J&J businessunit, enabling significant professional growth.

The Lead Test Engineer Equipment & Software will work with internal and external teams toarchitect, develop, and implement test equipment and test software used todevelop robotic surgical devices. The Lead Test Engineer will also support thecreation and execution of equipment qualification and software validationstrategies to enable Design Verification testing in cooperation with a team& team leader.

KeyResponsibilities:

  • Support five sub-teams Test Equipment,Test Software, IT Infrastructure, Maintenance, and Design VerificationTest Strategy within the Digital Surgery Franchise at Ethicon.

  • Provide technical mentorship andleadership to test equipment engineers, software engineers, softwarequality engineers, information technology partners, and technicians.

  • Execute the following phases of equipmentdevelopment equipment requirements, design reviews, supplier managementthroughout fabrication / assembly / wiring, factory acceptance, safetyreviews, troubleshooting, calibrations, qualifications, and documentation

  • Execute the following phases of softwaredevelopment software architecture, software requirements, softwaredevelopment, software validation, and documentation.

  • Identify, deploy and validatetechnologies, supporting processes, and resources to enable an efficientand compliant lifecycle of our test software and test data (capture,transfer, process, store).

  • Contribute to a dynamic, fast-paced teamand lead projects to support the overall testing strategy as an individual

  • Assist in developing & monitoringproject plans, budget, contingency plans & work estimation

  • Learn medical terminology, procedures& instrumentation

  • Provide peer feedback & mentor juniorassociates

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree inEngineering is required.

  • An advanced technical degree is preferred

Experienceand Skills:

  • A minimum of 7 years of related workexperience, is required.

  • Experience in medical device industry,regulated industry is preferred.

  • Experience with equipment development,including electromechanical and software experience is required.

  • Experience with a variety of programminglanguages and applications (e.g. Python, C++ and QT) and knowledge ofcommon software engineering paradigms (generic programming andobject-oriented programming) is required

  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma and

Process Six Sigma and a Green/Black Belt Certification is preferred.

  • Able to understand engineering designissues in order to conceptualize and develop test equipment and interpretthe data produced is required.

  • Technical writing experience withprotocols, testing results, procedures, & reports is required.

  • Experience with direct or indirectleadership of technical personnel is preferred

  • Excellent technical writing and oralcommunication skills required.

  • Capable of effectively managing multipleparallel projects in a diverse team environment is required.

Other:

  • This position is based in Cincinnati, OHand may require up to 20% travel domestically and internationally.

The Senior Development Engineer will: * Lead assembly equipment and process development activities within New Product Development projects, supporting activities within the Ethicon Digital Surgery Franchise. * Work with our Supply Base to deliver qualified assembly processes and equipment that meet established cost, quality, and performance requirements. * Provide project planning, design support, process development knowledge, and qualification / validation / stabilization execution. * Utilize their prior work experience, Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) techniques, Lean Six Sigma process knowledge, and the Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) tool to drive the product design to its most efficient outcome. * Provide mentoring and guidance to less experienced development engineers. * Have significant experience with several of the following assembly process and manufacturing technologies and concepts utilized by Ethicon's suppliers: manual assembly, automated assembly, test development, automated vision inspection, laser welding, lean manufacturing, line balancing. Qualifications * A Bachelor's degree with an Engineering focus is required. * A minimum of (5) years of work experience in manufacturing process development or operations is required. * Prior experience with manual and automated assembly manufacturing processes is required * Application of statistical analysis techniques is required (Process Stability / Control / Capability methods, etc.) * Design of Experiments (DOE) experience is preferred. * Development and Application of gauging techniques and subsequent Measurement Systems Analyses (GR&R) is required. * Prior experience in New Product Development, Project Management, and Risk Management experience is preferred. * Experience within a medical device production environment or other regulated environment is preferred. * Previous experience with Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) is preferred. * Experience with process design and development/ build of manufacturing or assembly equipment is preferred. * Experience with hardware/ software development in relation to manufacturing test systems is preferred. * Prior experience managing assembly equipment development with an external equipment fabricator/ supplier * Experience with vision inspection systems and sensors is preferred * Experience with Process Excellence Six Sigma, Green Belt or Black Belt is preferred. * Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) is preferred. * This position is located in Cincinnati, OH and may require up to 30% travel.
