Einstein campuses are Tobacco and Smoke Free.In this role you will be responsible for:Performs high complexity laboratory analysis for transplantation including HLA typing, HLA antibody testing and crossmatching according to standard operating procedures

Prepares reagents and performs daily instrument and laboratory maintenance

Assists the supervisor with operations/management activities as assigned

Serves as acting supervisor in the supervisor?s absence

Reviews and releases results produced by other technologists

Acts as a technical resource and trainer for new and less experienced technologists

Assists in the selection, evaluation and implementation of new methods and technologies

Maintains laboratory records according to good documentation practices and in a confidential manner

Complies with all standards and regulations that apply to the HLA LaboratorySupports and participates the quality program

Assists in oversight of proficiency testing, equipment maintenance, reagent verification and complaint/incident investigation

Participates in staff evaluations

Communicates effectively with the supervisor and director

Although there is no direct patient contact, the lead technologist must be familiar with UNOS requirements for transplant candidate listing and the listing procedures of the Transplant Program at Albert Einstein Medical CenterDuties include routine day shift and rotating weekend and 24/7/365 on call coverage for pre-transplant testing

Requirements:
Frequent standing, sitting, occasional bending stooping crouching and turning; good manual dexterity required for manipulating dispensers and performing analyses; occasional lifting and carrying supplies up to 25 lbs

Visual Requirements:
Near vision, color vision and ability to view through a microscope required; frequent exposure to computer terminals

Hearing Requirements:
Ability to hear normal conversation and telephone communications

Working Conditions: Laboratory setting; frequent exposure to infectious diseases in a controlled environment

Meet performance and productivity standards. * Perform daily equipment maintenance checks as directed. May assist with the routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of laboratory equipment and software maintenance. * Perform serologic, molecular and immunologic procedures that may include, but are not limited to, DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequence-based typing, STR analysis, probe hybridization/detection, cytotoxic crossmatching, antibody screening/identification by Luminex and/or ELISA assays and other procedures as defined. Recognize testing irregularities, identify the cause, determine the solution and resolve the problem or refer it to the appropriate level. \ * Perform and review quality control as directed. * Communicate with hospital or transfusion facility personnel to report patient findings and/or receive orders. May consult and communicate with personnel at other medical facilities to facilitate resolutions to problems and address the needs of customers both internal and external. * Review and interpret final results; prepare reports, written or electronic. Maintain, edit and review computer and manual records to assure accurate record keeping. Maintain accurate, legible and complete records. Maintain an orderly work space. SHIFT: Monday - Friday 8:30am 5pm Qualifications: * Education: Bachelor's degree in a biological science or chemistry. Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or equivalent certification preferred. Licensure if required by state. * Experience: 1 year of commercial/clinical laboratory, blood banking, HLA or molecular laboratory experience preferred. * Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work on a team.
