The lead teacher's primary objective is to be responsible for the educational component of children enrolled in the center and to provide effective classroom management while remaining in compliance with state regulations for child care centers. The Lead Teacher of the daycare also assists the Daycare Director in managing the daily operations of the daycare as needed or in absence of the Director.

Plan and implement daily lessons plans designed to meet physical, cognitive and emotional needs of children in accordance with the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards through the use of Creative Curriculum.Provide adequate care and supervision for all children in care both indoors and outdoors.Maintain a safe physical environment for children; maintaining a clean, organized area that is in good condition and informing Director of any repairs needed.Provide appropriate levels of interaction; including playing with children, participating in outdoor play and facilitating art or craft activities.Assist children in social-emotional development by modeling age-appropriate problem-solving, empathy and listening skills. This includes involving children in activities that build beginning skills in these areas.Understand child development and be able to create lessons to address all aspects of child development: physical, emotional, and cognitive.Turn in all lesson plans to Daycare Director on a regular basis.Prepare substitute teacher folder of lessons to use in Lead Teacher's absence.Monitor/assess developmental levels quarterly.Participate in Parent/Teacher meetings and be prepared to share assessment results with parents.

This includes assisting parents in finding appropriate community resources or referring parents to the Director for additional assistance.Participate in monthly staff meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities.Maintain educational records with The Registry.Provide supervision to staff; ensuring children are properly cared for and essential job duties are being fulfilled. Provide guidance on policy and procedure

Assist in managing ProCare, the billing/data information system. Be aware of how the system works and billing process sufficient enough to answer parent questions and correct punch related issues.Have knowledge of the payment agreement policy and parent record regarding this policy to create agreements in the absence of the director.Give tours of the facility in absence of director

Assist Director in preparing for licensing renewal, TSA recertification and monitoring compliance with state regulation.


The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.


A degree or certificate in child development/kindergarten/elementary education or

Equivalent previous experience in child care programs.


Must be able to qualify in Youngstar registry with at least a minimum level 7 credential;

Level 9 minimum preferred.


Minimum three years


  • Willingness to work as part of a team

  • The ability to lift up to 40 pounds with our without reasonable accommodation

  • Be able to interact with children at floor level frequently.

  • Supervising others, preferably in a day care setting

  • Be supportive of the mission statement of The Salvation Army.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a typical office environment. Full-time position; may require some weekend and evening work.
