GENERAL SUMMARY Supervise the daily activities of the ABC#s Child Care Center, providing quality custodial care for attending children, ensuring the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of children are met, and ensuring compliance with all state regulations and department policies and procedures. FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Department OperationsQuality and Safety Supervises daily activities of assigned group. Leads staff and children in both indoor and outdoor group and individual activities, and encourages children involvement. Provides custodial care to assigned group, maintaining the routine of each child according to prescribed procedures, and attending to the physical and nurturing needs of each child on an individual basis. Ensures smooth transition for child and parent at arrival and departure times. Demonstrates and leads staff in the appropriate application of consistent and positive child discipline. Records, evaluates, and reports observed significant individual child and group behaviors and progress. Communicates regularly with parents regarding their child#s participation, progress, and development, as well as participates in parent conferences as scheduled. # Quality and Safety Ensures a safe and secure environment that is orderly, clean, and appealing, and that permits the child to grow and explore. Consults with the Director on strategies for each child#s individual development, helping to ensure the best possible care for attending children. Maintains a healthy environment by keeping the children clean and teaching and practicing good hygiene. Follows set standards in food preparation and cleanup, and cleans and disinfects toys, furniture, and equipment on a routine basis. Adheres to all state regulations and accepted practices and procedures of the Child Care Center. Checks children for illness. Compiles list of needed equipment, supplies, and reports needed repairs. # Leadership Assists the Director in supervising the activities of the teacher assistants and aides. Assists in the scheduling and daily routine in the Director#s absence. Works with the Director in the training and evaluation of staff. Keeps staff informed of program goals and development with children, parents, and administration. # Serves as a role model for other Child Care staff. Develops and submits monthly activity/theme plans prior to implementation and prepares accordingly. Leads children in individual and group activity. POSITION REQUIREMENTS# Knowledge / Skills / Abilities # Minimum of at 3 years experience in an early childhood setting Experience # Education # High School Diploma or equivalent. Requires current BLS and Water Safety Training Certification Minimum of 12 college credits in early childhood education, including 3 credits in human growth and development. Or other acceptable levels of education and/or experience under state regulatory guidelines.
