Prefer experience working with young children (ages infant through 5 years of age). Education in early childhood desired, Child Care Credential desired, but not limited to.

SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Certification (we can provide training)

Essential Job Functions

This position is for an "On-Call Substitute Lead Teacher." Person must be flexible and able to assume the Lead Teacher role in one of five classrooms.

Responsibilities include, not limited to: Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning activities for children; communicate with parents on a daily basis (written and oral); supervise college students that serve as Aides in the classroom; light housekeeping; maintain clean and orderly environment; maintain all licensing requirements for the CDC as mandated by the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Appalachian State University.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supervising young children: meeting their social, emotional, and physical needs. Experience delegating responsibilities. Experience in communication.

Work Schedule/Hours

Academic Year: 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

(teachers ONLY work 8-hour shift, with an hour break for lunch. Teachers alternate work hours (7:15 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. OR 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.)

During university breaks the CDC operates on a 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for everyone.

Ability to lift and carry children up to 30 lbs; lots of bending, walking and sitting on floor; on feet most of the day.

Able to interact physically with children during outdoor play (throwing, catching, running, interacting with children appropriately).

Hiring Range $10.90 - $13.00/hour

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
