The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.

As a Lead Tax Examining Technician you will:
Deal tactfully with individuals on controversial or sensitive matters, and communicate effectively, both orally (OJI) and in writing in order to prepare and present information and coordinate work or provide feedback to internal and external customers.
Prepare accurate inventory reports each week. Keep daily records of receipts and closures so weekly totals are correct.
Recognize changes which effect procedures and consequences that others are not aware of.
Interpret information correctly and take the most effective and appropriate action to resolve the issue.
Identify prior and current year returns and corrects errors according to IRM/local procedures per current or prior instructions. Use required systems (i.e. AMS, IDRS, Mef, and EUP) to interpret IMF return information for processing and proper routing.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-7 LEVEL: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: experience using business tax law, IRM, IRC, IRS collection techniques and enforcement actions, tax forms, notices, bills, and other documents to advise the taxpayer of options for meeting tax obligations; Investigative/probing techniques to solicit relevant information; Communicating specialized information orally or in writing with internal and external customers regarding inventory management procedures; providing clear and concise replies to taxpayers or their representatives. Experience processing IMF Rejects and IMF RAW.
The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
