The MWS Systems Engineering Team is looking for a system integration engineer. This position is located in Huntsville, Alabama.

Boeing Defense, Space & Security's (BDS) Missiles and Weapons Systems division works closely with U.S. Customers to provide and maintain advanced capabilities that protect warfighters, regions, and entire nations. Programs include the Ground-based Midcourse Defense and Missile Defense National Team programs; Weapons including Cruise Missile Systems, Direct Attack precision-guided munitions, and Integrated Air & Missile Defense products; and Strategic Deterrence Systems, which includes Minuteman ICBM support and guidance system repair.

Objectives of the Missiles and Weapons Systems Systems Engineering Team include:

  • Enabling the transition of division programs and programs across the enterprise to implement a new model based systems engineering standard to support system requirements, system design, analysis, and verification/validation activities

  • Demonstrate model based systems engineering deliverables and facilitate seamless customer-supplier data integration

  • Facilitate the execution of Systems Engineering Best Practices anchored in requirements quality, functional analysis and allocation, and analytical simulations

  • Support program planning initiatives to include seedbed modeling, Systems Engineering Management Plan development, Requirements and Verification Management Planning, Interface Control Methodologies, Specialty Engineering planning, and planning for open system architectures

Position Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review of requirements for completeness, quality, and traceability

  • Develop Functional Architectures and perform functional analysis

  • Develop model based systems engineering content for requirements, system functions and activities, logical and physical architectural elements, and interface definition

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplined systems engineering teams across commercial, defense, and support divisions

  • Integrate design development and program management processes within system models

  • Develop navigation methodologies within the system model

  • Generate scripting and report generation from the system model for customer deliverables

  • Lead the data architecture of the model based ecosystem for various programs

  • Develop and update of IT Requirements to support the MBSE environment. Coordinate requirements with IT business partners and enterprise teams.

  • Lead systems engineers and train on systems engineering best practices. Demonstrate connectivity between best practices and the execution of these processes within a model based environment

  • Perform risk assessments and generate mitigation plans for various programs with regard to compliance with system requirements and customer capabilities

  • Perform affordability assessments of system designs

  • Lead system architecture efforts for various programs. Provide independent review of system models, requirements, and system design

  • Project Manage deliverables to include task management and delegation across resources to achieve deliverables for various programs. Track task completion and resource utilization using earned value methodologies. Provide progress reporting to senior leadership.

  • Provide systems integration laboratory development guidance.

  • Provide support to test development and integrate test initiatives into system models

  • Provide oversight and leadership over the analytical architecture of system models

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance post start. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Minimum technical bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience/domain knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering is preferred

  • Experience IBM Rational DOORS is preferred

  • Experience with CAMEO or Rhapsody is preferred.

  • Experience with complex systems integration and test preferred

  • Experience with risk management processes

  • Experience with earned value management

Typical Education / Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position provides engineering technical expertise covering a wide range of activities in support of development, launch, recovery, and refurbishment. Expertise in a specific engineering discipline plus a background in systems engineering and space flight hardware test and certification is desired. Job Description: Provide engineering technical management and system engineering integration support for a space flight project. Responsibilities include providing support in all phases of preparation and issue resolutions for major design reviews, technical interchange meetings, test readiness reviews, and programmatic meetings. The candidate will be required to prepare briefings and meeting minutes, track action items, perform technical trade studies, participate in problem resolution activities, analyze data, participate in risk assessments and mitigation plan development and evaluation, provide hazard analysis assessments, perform flight readiness assessments, evaluate technical feasibility of prime contractor change requests, and review prime contractor documentation submittals for adequacy and content. Expert knowledge of Propulsion and Thermal Control Systems is strongly desired. The candidate should be capable of providing expertise for a wide range of propulsion and thermal components, types, and technologies. Expertise to be applied to the evaluation of system designs, component sizing, trade studies, performance analyses, and test data. Must have the engineering skills to perform chemical, mechanical, thermal, and electrical analysis and engineering evaluation related to propulsion and thermal control systems.
