MSFC/Flight Systems Team within the Human Exploration Development and Operations Chief Engineers Office supporting work with the USAF Rapid Capabilities Office (RCO). This position provides engineering technical expertise covering a wide range of activities in support of development, launch, recovery, and refurbishment. Expertise in a specific engineering discipline plus a background in systems engineering and space flight hardware test and certification is desired.
Provide engineering technical management and system engineering integration support for a space flight project. Responsibilities include providing support in all phases of preparation and issue resolutions for major design reviews, technical interchange meetings, test readiness reviews, and programmatic meetings. The candidate will be required to prepare briefings and meeting minutes, track action items, perform technical trade studies, participate in problem resolution activities, analyze data, participate in risk assessments and mitigation plan development and evaluation, provide hazard analysis assessments, perform flight readiness assessments, evaluate technical feasibility of prime contractor change requests, and review prime contractor documentation submittals for adequacy and content.
Expert knowledge of Propulsion and Thermal Control Systems is strongly desired. The candidate should be capable of providing expertise for a wide range of propulsion and thermal components, types, and technologies. Expertise to be applied to the evaluation of system designs, component sizing, trade studies, performance analyses, and test data. Must have the engineering skills to perform chemical, mechanical, thermal, and electrical analysis and engineering evaluation related to propulsion and thermal control systems. Experience should include the following emphasis areas:
Propulsion/Thermal Hardware Experience

Technical Issue oversight and resolution
System Test Support experience
Flight test and operations experience, with real-time operations and console experience preferred
Experience in decommutation and analysis of test and telemetry data.
Travel will be required on a regular basis to provide on-site support at the prime contractor site or other alternate site as required by the customer.
Personnel will be expected to serve as a focal point within the Flight Systems Team for a particular engineering/technical area of expertise. In addition, personnel will be expected to provide broad systems engineering support covering many vehicle systems and technical areas in support of a team. The following is a list of expected functions personnel in this position will be expected to perform.
Support vehicle systems integration and test by providing engineering troubleshooting and problem assessment.
Support on-site system test activities at the contractor site including reviewing data and anomaly identification and tracking.
Participate in Engineering and Failure Review Boards and provide technical recommendations to the Program lead.
Participate in flight hardware requirements and design reviews with technical recommendations provided to Program management.
Participate in flight hardware sell off reviews, functional configuration audits, physical configuration audits, and flight readiness reviews.
Provide launch planning support and provide on-site launch activities monitoring, technical data review, and problem resolution support.
Evaluate and conduct risk based assessment of launch service providers.
Provide recovery planning support and provide on-site recovery activities monitoring, technical data review, and problem resolution support.
Apply lessons learned from previous vehicle builds and system test to refurbishment activities.
Provide technical assistance to support operations anomalies and troubleshooting.
Provide support and technical input for managing program level planning tools such as mind maps, project schedules, and other program management databases.
Support integration activities for secondary experiments.
Provide quad charts on the top technical issues on a weekly basis for Program management.
Provide detailed weekly notes to the Program office managers for key meetings that the MSFC Flight System Team attends.
Job Skills and Qualifications:
Active TS/SCI is mandatory
Strong Systems Engineering background that brings proper perspective of subsystems impact to the total project and demonstrated ability to develop tools and products to provide these assessments
Able to work in a team oriented fast-paced environment
Be a self-starter
Require little supervision in performing day-to-day duties
Intimate working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications, with a demonstrated ability in MS Excel
Excellent written and oral communications, computer, and interpersonal skills.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in DoD and/or NASA flight projects, or similar experience
Experience in providing assessment of system test readiness
Experience providing oversite test support
Experience in the assessment of as-run test data
Expertise to interpret test data and communicate the findings to the customer
Experience in current engineering tools such as Matlab to enhance the team capabilities is a definite plus
BS, MS or PHD degree in Engineering Arom an ABET accredited school
