This position is for a Lead Systems Engineer supporting the Linux and Unix environments at MGM Resorts International. This individual will contribute to future infrastructure designs, be responsible for influencing direction, and delivering projects by collaborating with multiple departments. This individual is expected to possess budgeting and forecasting skills as well as the ability to prioritize project activities. Additionally, this individual must have the ability to communicate effectively with cross functional teams, upper management, and key stakeholders as necessary. The role requires the individual to ensure system hardware, operating systems, systems software, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards.
Monitor and manage Linux and AIX systems, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Provide overall technical leadership on projects, driving project activities and team deliverables.
Displays the ability to collaborate with Project Management, Architecture, Applications Support and Development teams on projects, technology roadmaps & fiscal budgeting process.
Takes a leadership role in representing Systems Engineering in a positive manner, espousing the department's vision, mission and business direction to both internal and external customers.
Demonstrates extensive knowledge in field of specialization (Unix/Linux) or multiple disciplines to the successful completion of complex project assignments.
Apply OS patches and upgrade and configure system software that supports enterprise infrastructure applications or asset management applications on regular basis.
Displays original thinking in applying principles, theories, and concepts on a wide range of problems.
Monitor, manage, and resolve regular security alerts to identify any possible intrusions.
Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
Monitor, manage, and resolve daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems/Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
At least five 5 years Linux server administration.
Previous experience in a technical role in a large enterprise environment.
Previous experience in roles operating enterprise class server and storage solutions.
Experience with both automated patching and manual patching.
Excellent customer service skills.
Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.

Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Certifications (Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA)).
Experience in Cloud Architecture
Experience with Satellite Servers.
Experience with container tools: Ansible, Kubernetes, Puppet, etc.
At least 3 years working with virtual technologies: VMWare ESX and Virtual Center experience. IBM Certified Systems Administrator (AIX)
Any of the following certifications: Microsoft Certified Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (System Center), Citrix Certifications (Virtualization), Cisco Certification (Data Center Unified Computing) VMware DCV (Data Center Virtualization) Certifications (VCA / VCP / VCAP / VCDX), Red Hat Certificate of Expertise, Other platform and system certifications by industry recognized organizations
Previous experience working in a similar resort setting.
