The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Corporate Headquarters in Milwaukee, WI is the site where the first H-D factory - a wooden shed - was built in 1903 in the backyard of the William C. Davidson family home. Join our team as a Lead Supply Base.

Job Summary

Join our team as a Supply Base Lead. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and identifying suppliers based on evaluating, selecting, and managing the Supply Base. You will also support product development activity for systems and components ranging from concept and process selection, cost modeling, tooling and process development project management, through process and product verification, validation, and product launch. This position will also be responsible for ensuring appropriate resource allocation to achieve key quality, cost, and timing strategies.

Job Responsibilities

This is what you'll do:

  • Impact the achievement of supplier risk management to drive results in Supply Base objectives.

  • Resolve complex problems related to Supply Base. Works independently, requiring guidance on only the most complex situations.

  • Lead others to solve complex problems related to Supply Base using analytical thought, exercising judgment and identifying innovative solutions. May lead functional teams or projects.

  • Communicate difficult concepts such as statistical operator control (SOC), just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing, cost management tools, benchmarking, and other quality and continuous improvement tools and negotiates with others to effectively influence as appropriate.

Experience Requirements


  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret global view of industry competency, capabilities, legal implications, technical direction, specific process familiarity, process and design related cost drivers and recommend best practices to improve Supply Base.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a group and/or team and provide guidance to other employees.

  • Proven track record of production or procurement of components and subsystems.

  • Deep expertise in program management and ability to implement strategic purchasing relationships with suppliers.

  • Travel required up to 25%.


  • Experience in an automotive or motorcycle manufacturing environment.

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) Certificate.

  • Experience or knowledge with Harley-Davidson motorcycles and accessories.

The primary focus is on leading value realization projects and process improvements, which involves process, people/behaviors, roles/responsibilities, culture, strategy, and systems/data in the Supply Chain area. This is done through collaboration within CCC, with our value chain partner businesses, and with Global IT, through leveraging best practices with other businesses, and through bringing the outside in. Principal Accountabilities 50% Identify, lead, and drive optimization/continuous improvement activities, especially in the Supply Chain area, to drive value and process consistency, collaborating with subject matter experts and leadership across the business. Continous improvement activities will be defined and prioritized on an ongoing basis. As many BPO team projects are cross-functional and based on business impact, it's expected to work on efforts outside of immediate area as needed. 25% Ensure organizational readiness and commitment to ongoing optimization, value realization acitivites, and enhancements. Communicate frequently with leadership to inform on project status, align on resource needs, and prioritize projects. 10% After super-users, next point of escalation for assistance related to overall SAP functionality in the Supply Chain space. 5% Lead ongoing enhancements, upgrades, and deployment activities, system intergration from potential M&A activity, and organic growth projects. Ensure functionality is appropriately tested and trained. 5% Implement, maintain, and communicate metrics to track value captured through optimization initiatives and to ensure the sustainment and performance of the Supply Chain process areas. Drive continuous improvement and creation/execution of action plans where metrics indicate need. 5% Other responsibilities as identified.
