The Supplier Quality Engineer is a key role in the Wabtec Sourcing & Quality organizations & is accountable for: Achieving Supplier Quality goals for assigned supplier base & commodity, Meeting sourcing goals across product group (Focused on Cost, Quality, Delivery), Contributing to growth plans with existing & new suppliers, Working in a boundary-less manner with diverse global teams to achieve the above results.

The Supplier Quality Engineer has to develop & maintain objectives to achieve the following responsibilities:

1.Accurate & rigorous evaluation of current and potential suppliers using multiple tools

2.On-time execution of New Component Introduction (PPAP) projects

3.Maintain & upgrade product & process quality at suppliers

4.Drive & ensure compliance to supplier facing processes (Audits, PPAP, CARs, SDRs, etc)

5.Identify & qualify new products & suppliers in the region to drive growth

6.Collaborate with other functions as required to execute PPAP projects

7.Develop positive relationships and work closely with Sourcing Leaders to manage and implement supplier/engineering changes, New Product Introductions etc

The details of the key processes are:

1.New Supplier Evaluation / on boarding: Rigorously execute the supplier evaluation process including quality & compliance audits/assessments to ensure that only appropriately qualified suppliers are taken through the process. Work with sourcing/commodity team to meet business objectives of new supplier addition.

2.Production part approvals: Have a sound understanding of the following:

Drawings, specifications, PPAP Process, applicable tools (FMEA, GR&R, Control plans, Sampling, Capability studies, etc.) Understand & use tools rigorously to mitigate risk of non-conformant product from shipping from a supplier's facility. Train & drive suppliers to use our tools & upload objective evidence of PPAP step closure. Work closely with Engineering team to ensure adequate understanding of product risks & severities of failure.

Lead robust root cause analysis & corrective actions as required. Work closely with Sourcing team to ensure PPAP timelines are adhered to & stated capacity is established

3.Audits (Process, Product, Quality systems, SRG/Compliance, 'Eyes always Open'): Obtain a sound understanding of Wabtec expectations on audits. Conduct audits in keeping with good practices & publish professional reports in the appropriate system. Identify & communicate best practices/risks Work with supplier & other stakeholders to close findings & improve supplier processes

4.Problem-solving: Monitor Defects/DMRs'/Feedback for suppliers to identify any existing problems Use DMAIC methodology to identify & eliminate root cause sustainably on appropriate system

5.Participate in planning of supplier quality activities, share knowledge with team, training, etc.

All these responsibilities will need to be discharged in consultation with Pole Quality Leader, other SQE's & Sourcing team as appropriate.

Requirements

The candidate shall be a Graduate in Mechanical/Production/Electrical Engineering from a reputed institute & shall have a sound academic record.

The candidate shall have between 7 - 15 years of experience working in a similar profession & industry. (candidates with lesser experience may be considered with appropriate adjustment in role).

He/She needs to have a sound understanding of contemporary manufacturing, control and inspection technologies in two or more of the following product groups/commodities. Expertise would necessarily include first hand work in these areas.

1.Machining: Processing parts using conventional & modern equipment. Ability to understand & support supplier proposals on fixture design, process & equipment selection, operations & procedures, operator certification & qualification, Designing & validating measurement systems for attribute & variable measurement systems.

2.Fabrication: Light to heavy steel fabrication including welding. Ability to understand & support supplier proposals on fixture design, process & equipment selection, operations & procedures, welder certification & qualification, designing & validating measurement systems for attribute & variable measurement systems.

3.Non-metallic products: Ability to understand & support supplier proposals on manufacturing processes, control methods & measurement systems related to a wide variety of non-metallic products including Fiber Reinforced Plastics, Composite materials, Plastic, Rubber bonded products, hoses, etc)

Strong understanding of quality tools used to manage supplier quality

Strong interpersonal, team-work & and leadership skills

Strong spoken and written English communications skills

Proven project management and process improvement ability

Change agent with the ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization across functions

Strong PC and data management skills

Desired Characteristics

1.Prior work experience in a similar work environment

2.Knowledge of destructive & non-destructive testing methods in all of the above areas

3.Candidates with certifications in technology, quality systems, audit or testing areas can be preferred based on relevance of certification

4.Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred (Wabtec Employees only).

5.Ability to cope with multiple complex situations daily

Role Summary/Purpose The Commodity Supplier Quality Engineering Lead is responsible for qualifying new suppliers, developing existing suppliers, working with Sourcing to manage and implement supplier/engineering changes, and driving resolution of supplier quality problems and corrective actions. In short, ensuring and improving the overall quality of supplier-manufactured material for assigned commodities and/or areas of the plant. Essential Responsibilities * Drive supplier selection and part qualification through supplier assessment audits and robust Supplier APQP/PPAP qualification processes * Optimizing the number of Initial Samples that meet the quality requirements and specifications (First pass yield) * Participate and influence in sourcing committee for introduction of new suppliers in the panel * Work with Project and Engineering teams to incorporate all applicable specifications and customer requirements into Supplier APQP * Work closely with Sourcing Leaders to manage and implement supplier/engineering changes, New Product Introductions (NPIs), and transfers according to Supplier Quality Requirements / Supplier APQP * Interface with Suppliers and internal Supply Chain to implement quality improvements * Manage supplier issues within Supplier QRQC / WIM process and expected reactivity based on business cycle time goals (48hrs / 10 days / 30 days): * Lead containment of supplier quality escapes and root cause investigations of significant supplier quality problems * Ensure efficiency of corrective / preventive actions * Drive effective cost recovery from suppliers for COPQ * Closely monitor supplier performance to drive defect reduction, corrective action closure, and other metrics * Own supplier audits, ensuring compliance and driving improvement plans where needed to improve NCR and PPM performance * Mentor/coach key suppliers to achieve industrial standards of excellence: * Lead improvement projects associated with assigned suppliers * Closely monitor supplier performance to plan and work with the suppliers to manage any required recovery plans, corrective actions and supplier recovery for the cost of poor quality * Be responsible for driving quality for assigned suppliers, improving quality performance via Quality Plan implementation * Accelerate improvements in supplier quality and deliver value * Provide technical support and guidance to assure product quality and conformance * Build expertise to drive long term improvement; resulting in significant quality business impact; improvement in processes and standards, supplier capability development, ensuring sustainable improvement Qualifications / Requirements * Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college. * Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Quality, Sourcing, Manufacturing, or Engineering role * Ability to travel to suppliers as needed for audits and to address quality issues, approximately 30-50% of time Desired Characteristics * Experience in a Supplier Quality role * Experience manufacturing, remanufacturing, or servicing industrial and/or transportation equipment * Experience with castings, fabrications, extrusions, forgings, precision machining, electronics, or engineered systems * Ability to interpret blueprints/drawings and specifications * Strong customer focus * Experience with PPAP/APQP or similar part qualification processes * Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement * Knowledge of ISO, IRIS, or other certifying bodies' standards, quality procedures, and audit techniques * Statistically literate and familiar with Six Sigma quality concepts and tools * Ability to analyze problems and identify root causes * Strong oral and written communication skills * Strong interpersonal and leadership skills * Ability to influence others and lead cross-functional teams * Ability to handle diverse activities simultaneously * Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. * Demonstrated ability to lead projects. * Ability to document, plan, execute programs.
