Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Lead Staff Development Specialist position is located in Topeka, at the Eisenhower State Office Building, and is within the Bureau of Human Resources. The Lead Staff Development Specialist provides organizational and staff development services and training consulting for the Kansas Department of Transportation and its employees.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Provides direction on agency instructor led training requirements and training programs, leads and designs initiatives to assist staff in developing and improving their job skills, gathers data to evaluate the effectiveness of the training efforts, and manages efforts to strategically create standardized training curriculums, business processes, desk manuals, archival processes, and identify staff development needs.
Conducts and delivers performance-based training programs presented to improve skills and competencies necessary for performance improvement. This position uses personal computer to produce training manuals, handouts, PowerPoint slides, etc., and should be able to train all courses offered by the Organizational Development Unit.
Develops and coordinates performance-based training programs designed to improve skills and competencies and provides communications and marketing information necessary to promote new courses.
Develops online training curriculum content designed to improve skills and competencies and uses personal computer and Lectora developer to develop online training curriculums which are supported in the Learning Management System.
Works with agency employees to assist with registering for classes and identifying training classes that would benefit them or their employees, answers incoming calls/emails and questions in a timely manner, and performs activities in support of KDOT's Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) efforts.
Participates in professional development activities that are aligned with individual employee development plans to improve skills and competencies needed to be an effective trainer, developer, and internal consultant.
This position requires up to 40% overnight travel.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of curriculum development and classroom materials.
Four years of facilitating classroom training.
One year of experience in planning, organizing, directing, and/or managing training activities.
One year of supervisory experience including performance management.
Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
Adult Learning Principles, Facilitation Skills, Communication Skills, Organizational Skills, and knowledge of Leadership Principles and Human Resource Laws.
