Determine and identify high-level functional and technical requirements by interacting with the user community and knowledge of enterprise architecture. Design architectures, including the software, hardware and communications, to support the total requirements, as well as to provide for present and future cross-functional requirements and interfaces.

Interact with project management to plan project schedules and technical direction. Provide quality assurance review and the evaluation of existing and new software products. Develop high-level system design diagrams for program design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation. Develop and implement moderate to complex web applications on one or more platforms.

  • Leading and mentoring a team of 4+ .NET developers assisting with development and designs

  • Collaborate with analysts and designers in the development of new or existing software programs

  • Think through problems and relate them to enterprise based applications

  • Write, translate, and code software programs and applications

  • Execute and monitor performance tests on new and existing software for the purposes of correcting mistakes and general debugging

  • Develop and maintain user manuals and guidelines


Must-Have Skills:
(Stack rank in order of priority. Most critical skill listed first & what they need to be capable of doing with each technology)"

  • Minimum 10 years of .NET development experience with Microsoft stack in enterprise environment.

  • Prior experience mentoring and leading a team of developers

  • Must be proficient and fluent with the following: C#, Visual Studio (2017), .Net (ASP or ADO), MVC

  • HTML, Bootstrap, Angular (They're on version 5), JQuery, JavaScript and TFS

  • Be able to create native API's. They DO NOT use SOAP anymore. Need to be very good creating RESTful and JSON web services

  • Developing on SQL Server

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Familiar with automated application deployment tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.

  • Attaching code to these microservices is desired but not mandatory

  • Any experience with Azure is HUGE plus!


  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies

  • Successful track record of developing quality software products and shipping production ready software

  • Experience with technologies necessary for Internet applications: HTTP, TCP/IP, POP/SMTP, etc.

  • Experience writing SQL queries for SQL Server or another Relational Database is required

  • Experience as an applications programmer on large-scale database management systems.

  • Experience with high scalability projects involving on-premises based infrastructure design and implementation

  • Has mentored junior software developers on design patterns, development best practices and DevOps trade-offs

  • Programming and software design experience

  • Backend development experience

  • Comfortable writing and analyzing SQL queries

  • Document Application Process


  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.

  • Certifications in the appropriate technologies.

This position will develop, plan, conduct and lead the Lab in our scientific research around photogrammetry, volumetric capture and other computer vision endeavors. The Computer Vision Software Engineer leads in the implementation and development of software and systems with an emphasis on computer vision, object tracking, 3D modeling, camera modeling, and related graphics rendering to support the UNC Emerging Technologies Lab. The Computer Vision Software Engineer reports to Faculty Director of the ET Lab. The role includes scientific research and applied execution of computer science concepts. The mission of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media is to prepare students to ignite the public conversation in our state, the nation and the world, and to understand the role of communication in fostering democracy. The school offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, and administers a variety of professional development and distance-learning programs. Enrollment includes about 1,000 undergraduates and 125 graduate students in addition to professional development and distance education students.
