Job Description

U.S. Bank is seeking a Solutions Architect with strategic planning and influencing experience to contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives. Research, model, and integrate business and technology architectures to align with business strategy, goals, and objectives. The Solution Architect will play a hands-on role driving the overall technical architecture and being responsible for the end-to-end solution architecture within MPS (Merchant Payment Services) business line. They will partner with the Business/Product Sponsors, Agile Product teams, and Peer Architects while driving MPS Technology's digital modernization efforts. The Solution Architect's focus is enabling and accelerating the delivery of our products by creating highly reliable, scalable, and secure solutions that deliver key business value.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership, prepare design artifacts, and implement solutions as part of agile teams. You will drive the end-to-end solutions architecture design. Own and articulate the architecture and design to the product leaders, product teams, and architecture leadership.

  • Engage with multiple Product teams to deliver architecture artifacts, drive issue resolution, wellness plans, and product roadmaps.

  • Analyze business direction, understand the long-term vision, and quantify the risk/benefits in developing strategic technical solutions. Collaborate closely with the product leaders and teams in technology evaluation, selection, recommendation, and configuration.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with product leaders, architects, and technical leads for individual products and applications. Partner with peer architects to find opportunities to refactor business processes, improve customer experience or perform capability rationalization.

  • Work both independently and with all levels of the organization, including technical and non-technical team members.

  • Strong presentation skills: written and verbal communication including the ability to influence.

  • Apply Architecture and Design concepts: layered Architectures, Components, Interfaces, messaging and patterns for enterprise Solutions.

  • Sets the direction of the architectural roadmap. Determines the Benefits for specific engineering initiatives and determines appropriate levels of investment for given strategic horizons. Establishes engineering strategic objectives that drive architecture and technical approach.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Six to eight years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • 8+ years of industry experience in architecture, analytics, design, and development of enterprise solutions in multiple technology platforms, frameworks, and languages.

  • Demonstrated and extensive knowledge of APIs, UIs, infrastructure, data architecture, security, new technologies, Cloud migration strategies and product and vendor evaluation.

  • Demonstrated expert understanding of the agile development process and DevOps practices.

  • Demonstrated software development experience with expertise in client-side technologies (Angular/React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS) and strong experience using Java, Spring Framework/Spring Boot, and web application technologies.

  • Experience in cloud technologies and practices, building and deploying applications using either AWS or Azure or both. Cloud certification preferred.

  • Experience in microservices architecture.

  • Experience and successful modernization at large corporations (re-platforming, re-hosting and service enablement).

  • Demonstrable experience migrating from OnPrem to Cloud, Preferably Mainframe modernization experience.

  • Possesses expertise in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices in an agile environment.

  • Experience in Payment Services, Financial Services, or regulated domains is a big plus.

  • Customer-focused attitude.

  • Experience with Domain Driven Design concepts.

  • Track record of critical thinking and translating business needs into technology solutions.

  • Passion for technology, not limiting yourself to a set of languages or frameworks.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and thought leadership skills.

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $123,165.00 - $144,900.00 - $159,390.00
