Essential Responsibilities:

Responsible for manufacturing and testing support of power electronics, switchgear equipment, cooling, and control systems for Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) products such as STATCOM, Static Var Compensators (SVC), Fixed Series Compensators (FSC), Inverters and Shunt Capacitor Banks. Perform field work required in commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, emergency calls and repairing FACTs installation and products including power electronic valves, synchronous machine, switchgear equipment, cooling system and control systems.

Remotely assist client to investigate FACTs installation failures or problems. Develop, perform, and analyze maintenance routines and procedures to maximize FACTs installation availability, reliability, and performance. Train and remotely assist on-site personal to be first responder in case of installation failure.

Assist FACTS Engineering group with manufacturing products. Assist control engineers with factory tests and Real-Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) of control components and systems. Evaluate and develop improved equipment testing procedures to maximize reliability, maintainability, and field installation constraints.

Assist FACTS system startups and troubleshooting's. Identify impending obsolescence issues to Engineering management for action. Create control cabinet schematics and Bill of Materials (BOM) for projects.

Travel to manufacturing locations to inspect work and mark up drawings as required. Witness and review test work Assist in resolving manufacturing problems. Perform factory tests on power electronic systems and cooling systems using ALSTOM and GE expertise.

Responsible for maintaining test facilities including: RTDS Lab, Engineering Lab. Maintain calibration records.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor's degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, and 3 years experience in related occupation required. The position also requires 3 years experience with computer aided design software such as AutoCAD; 3 years experience with high-voltage equipment (High voltage circuit breaker), Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Metal-clad switchgear, Power transformers, electrotechnical measuring instruments, and/or disconnect switches; 1 year experience with electrical test equipment such as logic analyzers; and 3 years experience with electrical safety practices and requirements.

Up to 40% travel (domestic and Canada) twice a month in average to supervise work sites, troubleshoot systems, or perform maintenance activities. Telecommuting permitted. Employee must be based in Philadelphia metropolitan area.

You will report to the FSE Manager (Government service) and manage existing work items to support customers and field engineering team on Drive system maintenance, system maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs. Essential Responsibilities: As Lead Field Service Engineer (Government Service) – Philadelphia, PA you will: * Lead and support field service staff and customers on GE Power Conversion Drive system problems, focusing on SD7000 series drives. * Lead and support customers onsite and remotely regarding Drive system problems. * Reach back to CoE as appropriate. * Identify new opportunities & drive development of effective offerings to improve in-service equipment reliability / availability. * Provide technical support for new unit installation / startup and other outage work scopes * Work with customer personnel (Operations, Engineering, Training, and Purchasing) to resolve customer product issues, maximize availability of plants, and maximize purchased services provided by GE. * Manage, develop, and lead customer facing initiatives to deliver the best possible customer service. * Develop enduring and faithful customer relationships, while improving project profitability. * Partner with cross-functional leaders (Engineering, Parts, Repairs, Projects) to drive the right actions and provide prompt resolution to customer issues utilizing best practices and processes. * Be a self-motivated team player who can drive cross functional teams and communicate the results effectively to customers. * Record product issues and provide feedback to Engineering and Quality, identifying ongoing problems and common faults across similar products. * Analyze risks, establish contingency plans, and identify trigger events and responsibility for initiating mitigation action. * Oversee that warranty and service obligations are met, including; timely delivery, quality, compliance with contract scope, and expected profitability of the service order Qualifications/Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college * Minimum of 5 years of experience with GE Drive systems, with of 2 years practicable working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive system including MV3000, SD7000, U7000, VDM25000 or LV5000. * Minimum of 2 years practicable working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive/system controller including PEC, PECe, CDC or AMC. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: * Ability and willingness as a US Citizen to obtain a secret clearance * Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time Desired Characteristics: * Master's Degree in Engineering * 10 years of experience within an engineering environment * Background in a customer facing position, within a Service environment. Ability to establish and maintain long-term relationships with Government customers. * Technical knowledge of power conversion products (controls/automation, variable frequency drives, power, rotating machines).
