Responsible for manufacturing and testing support of power electronics, switchgear equipment, cooling, and control systems for Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) products such as STATCOM, Static Var Compensators (SVC), Fixed Series Compensators (FSC), Inverters and Shunt Capacitor Banks. Perform field work required in commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, emergency calls and repairing FACTs installation and products including power electronic valves, synchronous machine, switchgear equipment, cooling system and control systems.
Remotely assist client to investigate FACTs installation failures or problems. Develop, perform, and analyze maintenance routines and procedures to maximize FACTs installation availability, reliability, and performance. Train and remotely assist on-site personal to be first responder in case of installation failure.
Assist FACTS Engineering group with manufacturing products. Assist control engineers with factory tests and Real-Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) of control components and systems. Evaluate and develop improved equipment testing procedures to maximize reliability, maintainability, and field installation constraints.
Assist FACTS system startups and troubleshooting's. Identify impending obsolescence issues to Engineering management for action. Create control cabinet schematics and Bill of Materials (BOM) for projects.
Travel to manufacturing locations to inspect work and mark up drawings as required. Witness and review test work Assist in resolving manufacturing problems. Perform factory tests on power electronic systems and cooling systems using ALSTOM and GE expertise.
Responsible for maintaining test facilities including: RTDS Lab, Engineering Lab. Maintain calibration records.
Bachelor's degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, and 3 years experience in related occupation required. The position also requires 3 years experience with computer aided design software such as AutoCAD; 3 years experience with high-voltage equipment (High voltage circuit breaker), Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Metal-clad switchgear, Power transformers, electrotechnical measuring instruments, and/or disconnect switches; 1 year experience with electrical test equipment such as logic analyzers; and 3 years experience with electrical safety practices and requirements.
Up to 40% travel (domestic and Canada) twice a month in average to supervise work sites, troubleshoot systems, or perform maintenance activities. Telecommuting permitted. Employee must be based in Philadelphia metropolitan area.
