GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.

Receiving general direction from the Security Manager, incumbent ensures a safe and secure environment; provides protective service and response for protection of the people and property of the Hospital; is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation of Department personnel.

According to Department Policy and Procedure will assume a team lead responsibility to assist with the orientation, training, and performance of line staff; needs above average ability in the areas of leadership, training, operational systems and investigations. May assist in the day-to-day supervision and other duties as requested or required. Assume position of responsible charge person absent a manager.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.

  • Assumes all duties and responsibilities of a Security Officer.

  • Assists a manager with responsibility for the day-to-day operations; absent a manager will assume responsible charge position.

§ Assigns personnel to their daily scheduled duties; reviews all pass-ons, logs, journals, forms and reports since last tour of duty to ensure continuity of services and provide appropriate follow up; monitors line staff performance ensuring adherence to Department /Hospital policies and procedures; ensures Department philosophy and expectations for customer service are met; ensures adequate coverage for the next shift and special details.

§ Notifies Department/Hospital Manager, Director of any special occurrences (i.e. any failure of

§ persons, equipment, policy, procedure disruptive to normal business or having potential for negative consequence or publicity).

§ Facilitates shift training of personnel. On Job Training and In-Service training of personnel and promotes their growth and development. Documents personnel training records and track completion, certification, re-certification and general compliance standards are updated as needed.

§ Patrols assigned areas, giving particular attention to those areas where security problems have occurred. Identifies unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft, injuries or damages to Hospital property, patients, visitors and employees. Always maintains strict confidentially standards.

§ Investigates thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by questioning individuals involved with specific incidents; notifies appropriate law enforcement agencies of potential/real civil or criminal misconduct; participates in subsequent court proceedings as required. Prepares and submits written reports in a complete and accurate manner; makes notations in log of all incidents; keeps Manager informed at all times.

§ Maintains accountability for valuables/property and forms of evidence coming into incumbent's custody; ensures safekeeping; maintains documentation.

§ Performs as Dispatcher utilizing integrated security systems; radio dispatches personnel to respond to occurrences and phone calls for assistance; provides and maintains documentation.

  • Participates in assistance with workplace and domestic victims; responds to medical emergencies; when authorized assists in the restraint of patients; involved in the protection of dignitaries; controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

§ Cross trains in other locations beyond normally assigned workplace.

§ Ensures all required training is up-to-date and maintains individual data base training records and reports errors to appropriate manager.

§ Maintains all hospital issued uniforms and equipment.

§ Conducts a wide range of customer services.

  • May have to work other shifts and/or locations as necessary.

  • Assists with the Electric Vehicle Charging stations and programming.

  • Other duties as necessary or assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Must be realistic, objective, measurable and related to essential functions of this job.

  • Demonstrates the understanding of community policing, risk analysis and crime prevention concepts and practices.

  • Strong writing skills to provide and maintain documentation to support data. Intermediate computer skills; typing and use of database software.

§ Technology: use of access control and database software, communications equipment, and first aid equipment. Able to trouble shoot systems when necessary.

§ Is proficient in the following competencies or percentage of designated professional growth areas identified by the department. They are based on the competency based incentive worksheet: active contributor to departmental publications, committee/project participation, cross training, competent as an Advanced Dispatcher,

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable): Specify minimum credentials and clearly indicate if preferred or required

§ Valid MA driver's license or valid license from the state in which the employee resides required.

§ The following certifications must be obtained within the following time frames from hire date:

§ AVADE

§ Must be able to maintain certification and meet all criteria and stands of the MOAB program

§ Special State Police license preferred

EDUCATION: Specify minimum education and clearly indicate if preferred or required

§ Associate degree in related filed required or equivalent work experience in the field.

§ Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related discipline, preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Specify minimum creditable years of experience and clearly indicate if preferred or required

§ 1-3 years of lead/supervisory experience in related field preferred.

§ Experience in hospital, security/police, military, emergency medical or customer services preferred.
