Primary Purpose:

Security Officers are responsible for the overall safety and security of the school and must prepare for and respond to emerging threats and emergency situations to minimize the risk of harm to students, staff, and visitors. The security team plays a critical role in deterring outside and inside threats to Allen [SD students, staff, and visitors through a layered security posture, including personnel and electronic monitoring systems, which functions in cooperation with parents, counselors, teachers and law enforcement, while maintaining an educational environment that empowers every learner to realize his or her full potential.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • High School Education or GED
  • Some college education preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Texas Education Code (TEC) Section 37.08 l Subchapter C, Law and Order, as well as the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner's rules concerning School Safety Requirements as specified in §61.1031.

  • Actively patrolling school property is critical in securing the building and maintaining a safe environment for students and staff. Applicants must be able to walk or stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours) and quickly ascend/descend stairs.

  • Knowledge of various methods of providing site security and safety.

  • Ability to read and adhere to written and oral instructions.

  • Proficient with teamwork and collaborating with colleagues and administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to keep up with fast paced environments and to multi-task.

  • Sound judgment and ethical practice.

  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to write incident reports.

  • Successful completion of Level II Security Training curriculum with associated certifications.

Experience:

  • Preferred minimum of five (5) years successful security or related experience.

  • Previous leadership experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure Security team members are acting in accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC) Section

37.081 Subchapter C.

  • Ensure Security Monitor team is following the TEA Commissioner's rules concerning school safety requirements as specified in §61.1031. Any potential deficiencies should be immediately reported to the Allen ISD Coordinator of Safe and Secure Schools.

  • Using a layered security model, ensure only authorized personnel are allowed to enter the assigned Allen ISD campus.

  • Train new security personnel all duties associated with the post(s) assigned as part of the school's comprehensive security plan, as well as current challenges and changes in security practices.

  • Fulfill duties associated with the post assigned as part of the school's comprehensive security plan; maintain an orderly post and remain at the post at all times unless otherwise directed by a supervisor

  • Utilization of handheld metal detectors when necessary.

  • Monitor, log and make appropriate notifications regarding any life safety systems issues or notifications made to the monitoring station regarding any emergency situations via phone, in person or radio communications.

  • Actively respond to incidents, fights or other security issues in the school that threaten the safety of students, staff, and/or guests utilizing Safety Care skills up to and including momentary physical intervention if warranted by the safety risk.

  • Patrol (foot or mobile) and monitor school property for unauthorized persons. If needed, redirect or escort from property.

  • Report unusual activity or suspicions of safety issues to the Security Supervisor in a timely fashion

  • Any other security duties as directed by Security Supervisor or Allen ISD Safe and Secure Coordinator.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervision and training of Allen ISD Security Monitor team

Customer Care Skills:

  • Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other professionals at all times.

  • Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.

  • Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.

  • Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.

  • Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Two way radio communications system, camera monitors, video software management systems.

Posture: Continual Standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent reaching.

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 25 lbs).

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress.

Salary: Pay Grade OS03, $16.20 - $19.19 hourly rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
