Lead Scientist, Research Systems

Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Incumbents typically have 5+ years of work experience in a research or IT function with minimum of a Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Science or IT major/discipline from an accredited university or equivalent experience. The role is responsible for providing administration and subject matter expertise as the owner of a custom application that provides consumer study workflow management, study design and statistical reporting capabilities. The role will ensure successful provisioning, configuration, education and operation of the application in partnership with IT and business users. The incumbent reports to a Team Leader and receives direction in the form of detailed objectives. Key customers include: Research & Engineering, Consumer Study Managers, External Vendors & Agencies, Procurement, Contract Staff, Study Participants, Product Preparation and Evaluation Labs. This is not a coding position!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain efficiency of the systems and tools utilized to collect and process data from product research testing including custom and commercial software

  • Demonstrated application of project management skills to keep projects on track

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the product development process and business client / study manager needs

  • Conduct system analysis to drive operational continuous improvement

  • Conduct training for users on new software applications / functionalities

  • Lead upgrade and configuration user acceptance testing

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, upgrades, and resource optimization as required

  • Troubleshoot issues that arise with internal systems/processes and communicate solutions

  • Develop and maintain procedures and documentation

  • Plan and carry out ownership responsibility with limited assistance and direction

  • Cultivate relationships with internal support teams to ensure operational excellence

  • Understand the capabilities and areas of expertise of external vendors to drive enhancements and capabilities

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor or Advanced degree in Science or IT related major / discipline or demonstrated equivalent ability based on relevant experience and appropriate, but lesser, formal education.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Multiple operating systems such as Linux, Windows and mobile

  • Procedural or object-oriented programming language such as C++ or Perl

  • Relational database design and SQL scripting

  • Familiarity with SAS programming for data management is desired

  • Familiarity with research methodologies and corresponding data collection needs is desired

  • Ability to quickly learn and support software applications and capabilities

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize duties as necessary

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects within required timeframes
