GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Lead Sales Associate helps maintain a clean, well-organized store with a customer-first focus. The duties of the Lead Sales Associate include assisting customers in locating and purchasing merchandise, operating a cash register, stocking and recovering merchandise, cleaning the store, and performing other duties as assigned by the Store Manager to maximize store profitability and customer satisfaction while protecting company assets. Lead Sales Associates perform the duties of a Sales Associate and act in a lead capacity in the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager.

DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide superior customer service leadership; greet and assist customers.

  • Operate cash register and scanner to itemize and total customer's purchase, collect payment from customers and make change, bag merchandise, and assist customers with merchandise as necessary.

  • Follow company work processes to receive, open and unpack boxes, cartons and totes of merchandise; stock merchandise, restock and rotate merchandise on shelves, and build merchandise displays.

  • Clean the store; take out trash; dust and mop store floors; clean restroom and stockroom; and help set up sidewalk displays.

  • Assist in implementation and maintenance of planograms.

  • Open and close the store under specific direction of the Store Manager.

  • Perform additional duties typically performed by the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, in their absence.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

  • Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills.

  • Understanding of safety policies and practices.

  • Ability to read and follow planogram and merchandise presentation guides.

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.

  • Ability to perform cash register functions.

  • Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.

  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control.

  • Ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money.

WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent and six months of supervisory experience (or related experience/training) preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent walking and standing

  • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to run check out station, stock merchandise and unload trucks; which may also require the ability to push and/or pull rolltainers for stocking merchandise

  • Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, U-boats (six-wheel carts), and rolltainers

  • Frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds

  • Occasional climbing (using step ladder) up to heights of six feet

  • Fast-paced environment; moderate noise level

  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions

  • Occasional or regular driving/providing own transportation to make bank deposits, attend management meetings and travel to other Dollar General stores.

Responsible for ensuring that the pick-up, delivery or shuttling function is performed in an error free and safe environment. Loads are picked up or delivered using a straight truck per the instructions of the shipping papers/supervisor in a productive, efficient, on time and safe manner. Communicates with customers as required to ensure that customers are satisfied with the pick up or delivery of their load. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. * Inspect their Equipment complete all company reports and make sure the vehicles are in proper working condition for safe operation. * Documentation ensure the accuracy of all shipping document is correct and provides enough information to provide for an on time and safe pick up or delivery. * Pick up or Delivery of the Load pick up or deliver the load on time in a safe and efficient manner * Warehouse Work When not driving the Straight Truck, will be responsible for basic warehouse functions. * Miscellaneous follow all policies and procedures necessary to do the job properly. Verify the load and paper work is correct, make sure the load is complete, secure before moving the load from the dock, make surCommunicate with customers as required to insure the customer satisfaction with the load. If there are any issues with load it must be communicated to supervisor and warehouse manager if our warehouse is involved in this load. Employee may be asked to work various jobs in the driver field or if needed in warehouse or any other functions as assigned by management. * Reliable Attendance and Punctuality are essential functions of the job. * Work extended hours as needed. * Other duties as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. * Experience driving a straight truck preferred. * Warehouse experience preferred. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Not required having a degree with this position. Driving experience is required. Must be willing to learn new computer technology if needed to improve customer or company position. REASONING ABILITY The ability to follow procedures and work instructions, have good judgement and decision-making ability are required. COMMUNICATION SKILLS The ability to read and write legibly, be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Position requires frequent communication with dispatchers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to perform calculations involving adding, counting, subtracting, division and multiplication. Pass the company math test. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION as needed PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT DEMANDS - The physical and work environment demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee will be required to manually lift and stack products that ranges from 5 pounds to 75 pounds. Must be capable of sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, or walking for extended periods of time.
