JOB SUMMARY
Receives and interviews patients to collect and verify pertinent demographic, clinical and financial data. Obtains copies of relevant documents including physician orders and most recent insurance cards and where applicable verifies eligibility of insurance and obtains authorization for services as necessary.
Collects required payments or makes necessary financial arrangements as appropriate for assigned work area. Performs order entry for tests as appropriate for assigned work area. Prepares and distributes appropriate reports, documents, and Patient Identification items and provides patient education in accordance with Federal and State Regulations, Payer requirements and Hamilton Medical Center (HMC) Policies and Procedures including but not limited to Patient Identification Bands, HMC Privacy Notice, Important Message from Medicare, HMC General Consent, Patient Rights, etc.
Assists in working reports and worklists to correct errors or identify and resolve missing information. Has a mastery of and routinely performs Bed Control Functions including bed assignments, discharges, transfers, change patient status transitions, change patient status cancel and resume and change patient status revise. Is considered a Superuser on relevant departmental processes and systems applications.
Acts as a preceptor assisting Department Leadership in training and orientation of new hires as well as internal cross training and ongoing change management and performance improvement training. Performs additional duties as assigned in a courteous and professional manner.
Lead Registrar is trained and proficient in handling these responsibilities for 3 or more Patient Access sub departments as defined below:
Hamilton Medical Center Main Admissions
Emergency Care Department
Turner Women's Center
Hamilton Diagnostic Center
Plaza Medical Imaging
The Lead Registrar must be able to lead, train and supervise staff. Must be able to answer all system and process related questions from the staff, patients or HMC management
Qualifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of a high school diploma required. College level courses preferred.
Licensure: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.
Experience: Prior experience in same or similar position in a hospital or physician practice is preferred. Background in medical related field preferred.
Skills: Basic typing and calculator skills required.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, Word and Excel required. Basic medical terminology and knowledge of CPT4 and ICD9 coding preferred.
