The United States Industrial Gas (USIG) division of Praxair, Inc. is currently seeking a Lead Production Technician in Muscatine, IA. The production technician will be responsible for a safe, reliable, and efficiently operating Cryogenic Air Separation plants. The role will include but not limited to performing routine operating, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to work across departmental lines. Candidate needs to be able to travel up to 25% of the time in order to support a remote plant located at Sterling, IL. Candidate must be able to adjust the work schedule based on the facility activities, be able to work overtime as required, and be on call. Must be willing and have the ability to interpret manufacturers' manuals and apply hands-on skills in repairing certain mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reading and interpreting Electrical Schematics, Process Diagrams , and Electrical One Line Diagrams

  • Perform calibration of analyzers and have the ability to troubleshoot control systems.

  • Have a working knowledge of computers and typical computer programs (i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point)

  • Monitors process performance and makes appropriate adjustments to remedy deviations and align to the specified norm.

  • Operates units to continuously supply products in quantities and qualities safely and economically, complying with all environmental regulations, quality standards and daily customer requirements

  • Safely troubleshoot, and maintain all rotating equipment and associated mechanical systems including compressors, pumps, fans, blowers, gas burner systems, and valves.

  • Operating forklifts/man-lifts

  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Associates in Applied Sciences Degree or equivalent apprenticeship preferred.

  • 10 or more years Production Operations experience in an industrial environment.

VIEW JOBS 11/14/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-12T00:00 Production Technician The Production Technician will be responsible of operating machinery / equipment for the production process; ensuring that the production process happens safely, effectively and with quality in alignment with general procedures of the area. You will be expected to mentor new employees, perform basic maintenance of equipment and handle basic activities in Monsanto systems (SAP and electronic networks) commonly used in production processes. Responsibilities of the Position: * Operate chemical process/packaging equipment and systems utilizing real-time data / technology in own area with process control adjustment and alignment with existing SOPs, promoting standardization and ensuring efficient production processes * Provide standardized training and mentoring to area trainees and peers to support the achievement of everyone's personal development goals * Ensure all upstream activities to production process are handled within company standards and business requirements following standard work processes and adhering to safety, quality and environmental standards * Manage partnerships with key plant business partners, including suppliers and customers. * Provide support in administrative procedures, documenting key readings, maintenance orders and production information utilizing SAP * Assist in the preparation, review, and approval of key process documentation (operating, start-up and shut-down procedures; process flow and instrumentation diagrams; etc.) * Troubleshoot problems associated with equipment, processes, and systems * Performs preventive maintenance and inspections; troubleshooting problems associated with equipment, processes, and systems as needed * Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to Monsanto's Environmental Safety & Health (ESH) and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards (e.g. general shop floor/machine safety and operating procedures) * Comply with internal procedures and support compliance with legal requirements applicable to area activities * Notify leadership as needed when non-conformities in product or process variance occur or safety related issues occur or are avoided. * Responsible for keeping metrics and other relevant information current on visual boards to drive teamwork and facilitate shift change over * Collaborate with peers and across shifts to drive performance improvement * Support the plant in driving 5S practices to maintain an environment conducive to work. * Lead DDS (Daily Direction Setting) meetings * Engage in continuous improvement programs and identify opportunities to improve performance in accordance with production area, site and Monsanto goals * Utilize Focused Improvement (e.g., 5WHYs) techniques to initiate process and work instructions (WIs) improvements * Coach others on safety, manufacturing standards, work processes and Lean practices * Loading /unloading of railcars, loading/unloading of trailers * Conducting process equipment isolation * Issuing work permits to contractors and monitor progress and conditions of contractor work Qualifications for the Position: Functional Competencies/Skills: * Foundational Lean Manufacturing, ESH & Quality Compliance: Demonstrates knowledge of Monsanto's Functional standards (e.g. general shop floor/machine safety and operating procedures). Follows site policies, uses site resources responsibly and supports others in their work * Operational Efficiency: Executes manufacturing processes to hit operational efficiency targets, identifies areas of improvement and implements solutions * Technical Competence: Completes assigned tasks while continuously developing the technical skills required in his/her role * Customer Focus: Understands how his/her role impacts the final product our customers and communities receive Required Experience: * High School Degree * Basic knowledge of IT (Internet, Excel, PPT, and Word) Desired Experience: * Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment with a 24/7 rotating shift schedule, including overtime as needed * Experience operating a fork truck * Experience working with HHM (Highly Hazardous Materials) desired * Good mechanical and troubleshooting skills. * Basic understanding of maintenance and E&I disciplines a plus with the ability to read and understand engineering flow diagrams (EFD) is helpful. * Fundamental understanding of chemical manufacturing process with the ability to learn a highly technical chemical process and maintain proficiency. * Intermediate computer skills with experience using of SAP and PLC * Three to five years manufacturing experience, with experience in chemical or row crop manufacturing preferred Specific Work Conditions and Physical Requirements: The requirements for this position involve the willingness to work in a variety of areas (control room, plant, and warehouse) including frequent walking and standing. This can include frequent work both outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet and dry conditions. Position requires willingness to climb with the ability to perform elevated work utilizing portable ladders and fall protection equipment. Use of a Full-Face Respirator / Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, and Level-A Suit required for work with Highly Hazardous Materials, if applicable.
