Hatch is heavily involved in emerging blue/green/turquoise hydrogen and its associated carriers: ammonia, methanol and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), in addition to other decarbonizing technologies such as gasification (biomass and waste), carbon capture, EOR, etc.

Hatch is seeking a Lead Process Engineer to join our growing office in Houston, TX. This is an opportunity for a high energy, self-managed individual to work on diverse projects and technologies for local and global clients. This is a leadership position, and the candidate is expected to have strong process experience, ideally having worked at an engineering and technology consulting firm.

The role requires a proven track record in the development and delivery of process engineering outcomes including specific design and/or operating experience. The successful candidate will have 15+ years' experience across the full life cycle, from conceptual/feasibility studies to FEED and detailed engineering in handling minor and major projects. The work is varied and stimulating, covering pre-project studies and early phase engineering projects for greenfield developments, brownfield upgrades, emission reduction and hydrogen projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute technical feasibility studies, conceptual design, and process design and studies.

  • Act as Process Lead on projects.

  • Assist in the development and review of all the standard process engineering deliverables like design basis, process design criteria, HMB, PFDs and P&IDs among various others.

  • Develop/Review process simulations (HYSYS and other process simulators) and heat/material balance.

  • Review of vendor equipment quotes, drawings etc.

  • Collaborate with project team to achieve project objectives. Interface with other departments, project managers, engineers, clients, and vendors during all phases of projects to ensure a good working interface.

  • Participate in studies for various climate change and decarbonization related engagements, to support our clients' sustainability objectives.

  • Lead and participate in client engagements.

  • Ability to win and delivering the work (independent process studies).

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's and/or post-graduate degree in chemical or mechanical engineering

  • Professional Engineering license is preferred.

  • 15+ years of process experience in the oil and gas sector.

  • Proven experience winning and delivering work (independent process studies)

  • A keen interest in emission reductions, energy transition and willingness to expand expertise is a must.

  • Experience in hydrogen design/operations is an asset.

  • Process design experience including standard process deliverables P&IDs, cause and effect diagrams, hazard and operability design reviews and systems support services.

  • Experience with technical studies, FEED and systems design experience including piping and instrument diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, hazard and operability design reviews and systems support services.

  • Working knowledge of detailed design project (EPC and EPCM) execution for oil & gas, chemical and/or power industry clients.

  • Ability to work in a multi-discipline team to develop solutions focused on client objectives,

  • Must be able to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.

  • Enthusiasm for facilities engineering and the desire to develop their abilities in study and project management.

  • Experience in managing and executing feasibility studies, FEED, and EPCM engagements.

  • This position reports to the Regional Director.
