You will serve as a LEAD POLICE OFFICER (DESK SERGEANT/PATROL SERGEANT) in the Provost Marshal's Office/Marine Corp Police Department of Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Primary purpose of this position is to perform as a Lead Police Officer to Field Training Officers and Police Officers, and assists the Watch Commander in carrying out his/her responsibilities of supervising patrol shift, which provides 24-hour law enforcement services, seven days a week.

Responsibilities

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

  • Ensure continuity of operations and compliance with policies and procedures, while assuming responsibility of police officers.

  • Instruct Field Training Officers, trainees or police officers in specific police officer tasks and techniques.

  • Plan and direct police watch or shift activities to include preparing absentee reports, watch schedules, maintaining desk journals, and ensuring accuracy of paperwork submitted.

  • Inspect police activities onboard the installation to ensure compliance with established policies and/or procedures.

  • Interview victims, suspects, and/or witnesses to obtain evidence clarifying conflicting statements.

  • Conduct investigative traffic stops to question, detain, and/or issue appropriate citations.

  • Use probable cause requirements to conduct investigations (e.g. preliminary and non-criminal).

  • You may be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the installation commander, in accordance with USMC and DOD policy.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting in the planning and directing of watch activities, preparing absentee reports and watch schedules/lists; deploying police officers on motorized, bicycle, or walking patrols; directing police officers at fixed posts; controlling vehicle and personnel access to the installation; instructing field training officers; monitoring and maintaining criminal activity statistics; receiving reports, maintaining desk journals and ensuring accuracy of paperwork submitted.

Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

Requirements:

This position is Mission Essential.

This position requires shift work and incumbent is subject to 24-hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond per installation policy/SOP. May be subject to being interrupted from meals or other work breaks while on duty.

Overtime may be required.

As first responders to chemical/biological attacks, you must be able to train and wear protective equipment to include mask, suit, boots, and gloves.

You must successfully complete designated USMC Basic Police Officers Course and meet all certification requirements, to include weapons certifications, CPR, AED, DoD and Joint Training Regulations.

You must wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/policies.

If you are conducting law enforcement operations in navigable waters, you must attend the Inland Boat Operator Training Program at FLETC or similar course.

Failure to meet conditions of employment may result in disciplinary action or termination.

Education

No substitution of education or training may be made for the required specialized experience.
