Job Summary

The Physical Therapist (PT) is part of a team of health care providers at the 11th Street Family Health Center which is a Federally Qualified Health Center run by Drexel University's College of Nursing and Health Professions in partnership with the Family Practice and Counseling Network. As an integrated member of the Center and community, the PT provides evidence-informed physical therapy services, part-time, to clients/patients at the Center. While doing so, the PT serves as a clinical instructor to students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program as they complete clinical rotations at the Center, and a mentor to the Drexel University Orthopaedic Residents. The PT also supervises undergraduate coop students who assist with the center's administrative functions. The job requires a dynamic clinician with an interest in clinically excellent community-based care, and a progressive, evidence-informed, collaborative model of physical therapy practice.

Essential Functions

  • Provide evidence-informed evaluations and interventions to patients with acute and chronic conditions, both simple and complex and spanning the biopsychosocial spectrum.

  • Work as a team member within an integrated health and wellness practice.

  • Communicate with patients, family, and staff across 11th Street's disciplines to promote continuity across the continuum of care.

  • Exemplify interpersonal and communication skills that exhibit cultural humility and sensitivity.

  • Commit to racial equity and disparity reduction in historically excluded communities.

  • Maintain clinical expertise and innovative services through continuing education.

  • Maintain a safe clinical environment that complies with environmental, occupational, and medical safety regulations.

  • Order supplies, equipment, and other resources used by the clinic.

  • Attend and participate in meetings, mandatory in-services, educational programs, community events, and other activities in the center.

  • Demonstrate professional responsibility and time management skills

  • Demonstrate adherence to policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Center.

  • Demonstrate alignment with the mission and direction of the PTRS department and the 11th Street Center.

  • The 11th Street Center follows the Sanctuary Model of Care to which all staff agree and uphold. The commitments include non-violence, emotional intelligence, social learning, open communication, social responsibility, democracy, and growth and change.

  • Staff are expected to uphold the health center's mission by assuring that patients receive health care that is competent, caring, and meets with a high degree of quality and satisfaction. In addition, staff must support FPCN's and Drexel University's Stephen and Sandra Sheller 11th Street Health Center's commitment to the creation of a trauma-informed and antiracist system of care that continually recognizes and responds to the impact of traumatic stress on all those who have contact with the organization, including children, adults, families, caregivers, and staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory responsibilities:

  • Interview, hire, supervise, and evaluate Drexel co-op students every 6-month cycle.

  • Supervise DPT students, undergraduate co-ops, residents, and volunteers within the clinic.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in Physical Therapy

  • 2+ years of relevant experience

  • Pennsylvania physical therapy licensure and direct access certification.

  • Advanced clinical skills in treating adults with complex and chronic conditions.

  • Experience supervising DPT students and/or residents.

  • Proficient in basic computer skills including use of electronic health records and Office 365.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Conversational Spanish.

  • Specialization in Orthopaedics preferred.

  • Training in trauma-informed care.

  • Training in anti-racist approaches to care.

  • Experience with community-based care.

  • Experience collaborating with interprofessional teams.

  • Experience in program development.

Additional Information

This is a part-time casual position classified as non-exempt. The pay offered is based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
