Cognex is the global leader in the exciting and growing field of machine vision. With over $800 million of cash in the bank and no debt, we are a financially strong international company with a culture that maintains the fast paced, creative environment of a startup. Our employees, proudly called "Cognoids," take their work seriously, but don't take themselves seriously. Our Work Hard, Play Hard, Move Fast culture recognizes our employees for their innovation, perseverance and hard work in a fun, rewarding, and quirky environment.
As the optomechanics subject matter expert within of our 3D team, this Principal/Lead Opto-mechanical engineer will partner with multiple product development engineering teams, including the Director of Optical engineering, to hands-on lead the design and implementation of new imaging, metrology, and machine vision products, as well as participate in specification through deployment of machine vision systems.
Lead / consult on the design and implementation of precision, low-cost opto-mechanical subsystems that employ LEDs, lasers, optics, lenses, MEMS, and imaging sensors for industrial machine vision products. Total material cost for mechanical elements can be <$100 for="" many="">$100>
This is a contributing role with several direct reports
Work with and lead mechanical development engineers to specify and produce prototypes, pre-production units, and final products
Work with the development team leadership and NPI teams to implement DFM, DFA and manufacturing process design for the vision systems under development
Lead design reviews, error budget development and execution of design verification
Specify and lead the design and construction of high precision fixtures, calibration stations and other high precision optical stations needed to produce 1K-10K units per year. Work with manufacturing team to implement fixtures and efficient supporting processes
Work with NPI team to identify and coordinate suppliers world-wide to source high precision, low cost opto-mechanical, lenses & laser components for production of 1K-10K machine vision systems per year. Work with suppliers to specify and construct tooling for components
Construct, track, and help drive project schedules for above responsibilities. Provide schedule updates, risk assessments, etc. to both Engineering and Operation teams
