About The Opportunity Ocean Optics is seeking a Lead Operations Technician to work closely with our manufacturing engineering and production groups in a fast-paced production environment to assist in, but not limited to, the capacity planning, manufacture, and test of precision optical metrology and spectrometer systems: inventory control, coaching and mentoring of team members. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, accountable, has high emotional intelligence, and is an electrically/mechanically inclined individual with a technical background who is eager to help streamline the production process of custom electro-optical instrumentation and other value stream responsibilities.

Lead Operations Technicians oversee and assist in the capacity planning and build, test, and debug processes of production systems, spectrometer lines, and optical bench teams. They will also assist in delivering critical testing support during the product development stage. In addition, the leads will provide technical support to the engineering team and perform assembly tasks of electrical, mechanical, and optical components for production systems and calibration test fixtures.

About the Candidate The primary responsibility for the role is to plan production and support capacity to ensure team members are performing daily production build, test, and debug activities. Work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering Team and direct line manager during release of build and test methods for new products. Identify areas of opportunity to streamline process(es) prior to production launch.

Oversee the manufacture, test, and install custom wire harnesses / cable assemblies and electro-optical mechanical sub-assemblies according to production specifications Assist in interpretation of electrical schematics and production blueprints. Confirm team members are following work instructions, work collaboratively, and perform technical tasks that may span wide range of disciplines (electrical, mechanical, optical, hardware assembly, software etc) Provide equipment functionality and capability reports throughout the production and test stages Ensure tools and test equipment, including material which has shelf life, is maintained properly and are up to date on ISO calibration requirements and not expired. Perform critical quality control checks with team members, and work to streamline analysis and reporting in an organized manner Acts and makes decisions in a timely manner with managerial competence.

High EI with safety focus who is enthusiastic and can inspire and motivate team members. Ensure new team members are trained fully and completely. Plans, schedules and/or coordinates the preparation of activities for multiple value streams and is responsible for ensuring quality and delivery to final QC to meet OTD and RFT operational KPIs Plans and works closely with other leads to ensure coverage and continuity in all production work cells.

Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures. Redline, when required. Understanding, implementation, and sustainment of lean practices Perform other duties as assigned to support production goals and operational excellence.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have A Background Which Includes: Vocational or Associate's degree in related technical field or 5 years equivalent hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment Previously leadership experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus. Strong computer skills and ability to operate electrical equipment Strong soldering skills and cable assembly experience Knowledge of electronics, mechanics, optical or imaging systems Coaching and development of team members Superior diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills Strong analytical capability and experience, familiar with statistical analysis tools and experience post-processing data from measurements a plus Planning and execution.

Lean, 6 sigma background is a plus.
