Job Description

The Middleware Engineering Team has an exciting opportunity for a creative and experienced DevOps engineer. The Middleware team team works across cutting edge technologies including the latest version of AWS, Openshift, and the IBM MQ Advanced product. The team consists of highly skilled middleware engineers and is now looking for a skilled DevOps engineer to lead automation efforts for the team.

  • Candidate must keep the stability, reliability, and recoverability of the MQ environments as a foremost goal.

  • The candidate must react proactively to organic growth/risks/issues

  • Design and implement a standard toolchain that supports IBM MQ across all different deployment options (private cloud, public cloud, etc.)

  • The candidate must demonstrate very strong problem solving and communication and must be willing to work with several product lines on several assignments concurrently

  • Ensure technology integration with web servers, application servers, messaging and integration solutions, security and identity solutions.

  • Consults with end users, leadership, vendors, and technicians to assess system and non-functional requirements.

Job Requirements

'Must have' skills:

  • Min 6 years of experience

  • Must be able to delegate and monitor work progress of less experienced team members

  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership during projects and issue resolution

  • Proficient in scripting and automation using a variety of languages and tools such as ksh, perl. Json, Ruby, ansible, chef, puppet

'Nice to have' skills:

  • Three or more months of AWS experience

  • Experience in supporting middleware technologies such as Web Servers, App Servers, and Messaging products

  • Experience with messaging products such as IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ, ActiveMQ, Sonic MQ, Open MQ, etc

Education: Bachelor's or Computer Science Degree or equivalent

You will function as the Tenant Operations engineering lead providing subject matter expertise on Openstack in support of the Visible IMS/SDM cores. Call flow debugging expertise utilizing IrisView and NetScout applications is required. The successful candidate will have hands on experience deploying IMS applications and will be able to demonstrate knowledge of Linux, Openstack and common debugging techniques for the application and system. A background in automation and scripting with Ansible/Python is needed in order to quickly close gaps and provide direction for life cycle management tasks. * Providing mentoring to other team members on networking, application design, and engineering while acting as the final escalation point to support production service issues in concert with application, operational, and triage teams. * Interpreting weekly Visible KPI trends and measurements and helping operations address capacity and demand growth on the systems by defining and creating migration plans. * Creating tenant operations MOPs for patches and new releases with focus on reduction of mean time to repair. * Leading performance meetings with the vendor, planning and maintenance engineering and creating detailed project plans, providing input to weekly status calls with teams across several organizations. * Being the Openstack liaison on network and application design implementations for local redundancy and geographic diversity. What we're looking for... You're a technical expert with experience managing multiple medium to large projects at once. You know how to manage a project team, creating clarity, removing barriers, and using creativity to make decisions that impact projects and staff members. Cross-functional work is ideal for you, given your collaborative nature and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders across the organization. You'll need to have: * Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. * Six or more years of relevant work experience. * Knowledge of database technologies (Oracle, Couchbase, MySQL). * Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, Netmask, DIAMETER, SIP, LDAP and load balancing. * Knowledge of protocol analysis tools such as IrisView, NetScout, wireshark, tcpdump, ping, netstat. * Experience working with a high availability and disaster recovery solution. Even better if you have: * Bachelor's or Master's degree in technology related field. * Certification in Linux, OpenStack, Database Admin, Cloud Security or equivalent. * In-depth knowledge of design principals of OpenStack architecture and how networking operates in an OpenStack cloud. * Capability to carry out performance tuning, software upgrades, and resource optimization as required. * Capability to demonstrate applied leadership skills in previous work history. * Proven skills with scripting and automation of tasks (bash, Ksh, Python, yaml, ansible).
