A Brief Overview The Lead Medical Social Worker provides oversight for medical social work services, psychosocial assessment, and counseling for patients and their families in close conjunction with the physician and other health care team members. This position may be assigned to work all stations within the Case Management Department. Works cooperatively as a team with all revenue cycle, hospital and management associates. Communicates changes in process, policy and procedure and develops training tools to provide staff education. Serves as a trainer and mentor for new hires. Coordinates staff development and performance improvement through the A3 process. The Lead Medical Social Worker supports the flexible needs of the Department to accommodate patient volume in all areas of The Regional Medical Center. This may require assignment to another area of the Department and/or shift change. What you will do Leads and/or delegates responsibilities for the daily shift briefings, shift change procedures, daily posting of metrics, issues, problems and opportunities. Ensures that issues, problems and opportunities are consistently monitored for successful resolution. Monitors work flow and initiate staffing reassignments. Directs work tasks in conjunction with the area manager to assist in adequately managing fluctuating volumes.
Provides feedback to departmental management regarding Team performance and productivity
Support the achievement of departmental goals through the A3 process by collaborating with the Manager to generate A3#s and assures the execution of action items as assigned to the Team.
Maintain the team discipline of following all elements of the established standard processes (work management, tools, SOPs) * Work with HPWT to maintain an efficient, clean and professional work area Assures that daily and weekly 6S activities are conducted by the team. Coordinates work and lunch schedules for the team to ensure coverage as required. Lead shift briefings to:
Communicate revenue cycle information and changes in process, policy and procedure.
Identify educational, and mediation needs through shift briefings and observation.
Notify departmental management of schedule changes and training issues. In the absence of the manager, serves as a point of primary contact for patient complaints and/or customer issues. Represents the department at scheduled meetings as requested by manager. Monitors equipment, hardware maintenance and software updates; reports malfunctions and initiates corrective actions when necessary. Develops team training tools and educate team members to support the department in achieving established performance targets. Follows the Corporate Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI). Qualifications Master#s Degree In Social Work from an accredited college or university Required and Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Required LMSW - Licensed Medical Social Worker
State Licensure Upon Hire Required At least 2 years experience of social work experience preferred within an acute care hospital, ambulatory care setting and/or managed care organization. Required Physical Demands Standing
