Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures within established guidelines.
Collects (phlebotomy), processes and evaluates the acceptability of specimens. Approves acceptability of alternative specimens.
Ensures corrective actions are taken and documented. Maintains communications with staff and Technical Consultant.
Coordinates problem resolution.
Demonstrates a high level of theoretical knowledge in the department as a whole, and serves as a technical expert to provide advice, training, and direction to less experienced personnel.
Coordinates and reviews QC program for work area.
Coordinates and reviews proficiency testing and documentation of corrective action in conjunction with Technical Consultant. In collaboration with Technical Consultant, accountable for preparation and direct communication with on-site inspectors.
Performs additional duties/responsibilities within the department (work area, equipment, safety, committees, etc.).
Provides daily on-site work direction for the department, ensuring effective and timely test performance, result reporting, and resolution of problems.
Participates in peer review process and hiring/interviewing decisions. Identifies technical deficiencies regarding staff performance and communicates to Manager.

4 year degree in medical technology or related science, completion of clinical internship, certification as CLS/MT + 2 years experience
