Transportation Mechanic/ Bus Driver

Department: Transportation

UNION EXEMPT: No

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

WORK DAYS: Mechanic 4 hours/185days / Driver 4 hours/ 180 days

Position Summary

Perform maintenance, service and repairs of all school vehicles; including school buses, staff, building and grounds maintenance vehicles and equipment, in accordance to State law and District policies and procedures.

DUTIES:

1.Maintain knowledge of and follow District policies and procedures.

2.Work cooperatively with all district staff, WSP inspectors, parts suppliers, repair shops and dealerships.

3.Be punctual, regular, and dependable in performing duties and responsibilities.

4.Supply personal hand tools.

5.Diagnose malfunctions to determine service, maintenance and repair requirements.

6.Operate service, diagnostic, repair and overhaul tools and equipment related to the maintenance of district vehicles.

7.Service and repair mechanical and electrical components of district vehicles.

8.Perform minor body repair of metal and fiberglass.

9.Fabricate metal components requiring welding, drilling, sawing, and grinding.



  1. Operate all district vehicles, including snow removal equipment.

  2. Maintain a safe and clean working environment.

  3. Write and/or file accurate maintenance records and reports.

  4. Fill in on routes for drivers as needed.

  5. Other duties as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and

correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or organizations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,

proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in

situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of

instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or equivalent

Vocational Training in automotive and truck repair

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Washington State driver's license with/or the ability to obtain:

1.Class B CDL and passenger/school bus and air brake endorsements.

2.School Bus Driver Authorization.

3.First Aid Card

4.Medical Examiner's Certificate

5.School Bus Driver Physical Certification

Mandatory Conditions of Employment:

Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.

Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.

Completion of Federal I-9, Employment Verification Eligibility form.

This position is SEBB eligible, Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, Paid Holidays, Personal and Sick Leave

Paid 4 hours at PSE negotiated Mechanic rate and 4 Hours PSE negotiated Bus Driver rate
